I admit i may join military

I always wanted to help my country, although i do not aprove of the war, nor the fighting. If i join military i would want to be a nurse, a navigational leader or something, i couldn't imagine killing. Yet i want to join military so i can go to college for free, and help my country.

I do have respect. I just choose not to support them. I won't give them money, I won't say "Good Job" or "Thank you" because they are not fighting for something I believe in. I pity them but I will not give them support.

I have this mindset to pity soldiers because of my father's and my grandfather's war record. I will not give any support whether it is verbal or material to wars that make absolutely no sense. I know the realities of war. I know how bad it can be and that is exactly why I hate war so much.

It's obnoxious that you just assume people don't understand certain concepts because their opinion is different than your own. People aren't stupid or ignorant if they are different than you.

I don't like killing. I don't like people who kill needlessly. Iraq wasn't hurting us and now we've completely screwed up their country.

You know 500,000 kids get cancer there every year because of our bullets. They have depleted uranium in them which has affected Iraq's water. Oh how happy they will be that we made their country a toxic wasteland full of cancerous children and birth defects.

Wars like Iraq, Korea, Vietnam, that have no point bring nothing but saddness and hardship overtime. Do you really want Iraq to turn into another Nam? I don't. That is why I refuse to support this war in anyway, as obnoxious as it might seem.

I also hope you respect other militaries as well because they too are fighting for their freedom.

Stop engaging in reductio ad absurdum to try to make your point. It's obnoxious.

First of all, I'm not telling you to "bow down and kiss ass," just show an ounce of respect. There is some area between no respect and worshiping...something you would do well to learn.

Second of all, I'm not bloody telling you that you should respect the military because their job is "hard and [they are] very committed to it"! The men and women of the armed forces are not the ones who chose to go into Iraq. If you have beef with that decision, take it up with the politicians...on both sides of the aisle. Leave the military out of it.

I am not saying that the military isn't hard I just don't see why I should bow down and kiss ass because someone is fighting for something I don't believe in.

You could say that we must respect Saddam because his job was hard and he was very committed to it.

Because the life you save could be the one that ultimately finds the cure for cancer or AIDS.

I respect the fact that you do not choose to join the military, but please don't attempt to undermine the commitment of those who do.

And who are these "civilians" we're saving. More Iraqi's of course. Why can't we just say alright let's let them stop this themselves, America formed its own country so why can't Iraq.

Also I hope you realize we've poisoned their land with our bullets of depleted uranium. Yay! 500,000 more children have gotten cancer since desert storm! We really do them good. ^.^

killing one suicide bomber before he detonates saves 10-20 civilian lives at a bare minimum. Killing non-martrydom bound insurgents geometrically saves hundreds.

No.

I see no point in wasting lives (even if they are a bunch of dolts) when we need cures for cancer and AIDS and other such things.

Life is more valuable than death. Who can I help with one death by a suicide bomber? No one.

Besides I was joking around when I made that post. "aint no ho can defend me" please do you honestly think I would be that stupid?

It dosen't make you a sissie if you can't imagine killing someone. I guess you would just have to place yourself in those scenarios. I joined the Army National Guard. I will be going to school throught the ROTC program. I myself can not see myself killing anyone, but when it comes down to it that's my job. To serve and protect the people to the United States. I have learned that when you raise your right hand and swear into the military, you're a soldier FIRST.

PLEASE do not make a decision like this based on the educational benefits.

If you want to go to college, you'll figure out a way to...trust me. You may have student loans, but if you go to a nearby state school (living at home), you are able to very much mitigate the expense (particularly if you go to a community college for your first two years). Then, you can apply for financial aide and hopefully get some options that way. Then everything else can be covered by student loans. If there is ONE thing in life that is worth going into debt over, it's your education. (Says the girl who will likely graduate law school with about $100,000 in student loans...)

You still have at least three years to let life happen to you...I'm sure that will help make up your mind.

And I still support my earlier shameless plug for the CG...

I am not just doing it because of free college. My word people, i never said "just for the college." And though i am kind of smart, i am not enough to get a scholarship some day to go to college, nor can i afford it, but should that deny me the right to want to go? Plus ever since i was about 7 i wanted to be a nurse or a person who works on the computers at home base and watches over them. I may be a "sissie" as you say because i don't want to kill BIG WHOOP. God loves sissies who fight in other ways too. But i am afraid to join for i am only 14 now i still need years of training till i am there.
Plus if i join the milirary/ army i will be the first woman in my family too, both of my grand fathers were in army, and navy/sqaud teams. Not only will i be doing my childhood dream, i will be able to have a free college education!

All of these posts were on topic. They were all discussing the merits of pacifism and medics, all refered to in the original post. You mods seem to fail to understand that threads evolve in discussion. This one, however, did not. Please refer to the origional post and you will see the relevancy. This is a misuse of power on you part.

I would reconsider joining the military if the only reason you are doing so is to go to college for free.

I agree wholeheartedly on that one.

If you do decide to join the military, might I suggest the Coast Guard? It would be the branch least likely to send you overseas, and they're about saving lives, not ending them. Plus they get to spend time on the water. :]

You do realize that a good deal of the military leaders in this country stay safely in the United States while the troops go off to risk their lives?

Furthermore, you do realize that not every job in the military requires use of a gun? Indeed, I wouldn't want a pacifist defending civilians, but I sure as hell would want one as a medic patching up wounded soldiers. But hey, that's not glamorous, so I suppose it's not as important.

Don't join the military if you "couldn't imagine killing." I don't want sissies who are afraid to kill protecting my family. Sorry, I guess that includes you.
