Doughlass Macarthur is a very underrated general. Without his stradegies in the pacific, we never would have taken out Japan. Yea, he screwed up in korea, but he was definetly a better general than Eisenhower in my belief.

No he wasn't his entire "island hopping" battle plan was though up by Marine startegic planners long before the war occured and if Macarthure had actually trained and equiped the filipino army to the standards and size he said it was we would not have lost the philipins so early in the war. The man was also vain enough to make models blush he had no sense of unit or service to others before self, also he was an asshole who tought of himself before his men

MacArthur was a military genious when it came to the Pacific. Even in times of peace, MacArthur helped to rebuild Japanese infostructure. In Korea, MacArthur could have easily pushed back across the 38th possibly back to the border of China, uniting Korea and avoiding such present day troubles as North Korea, Kim Jung Il, and nuclear war with NK. I think Truman not only made a huge mistake but was disrespectful to MacArthur when he discharged him from Korea.

FYI: FDR and MacArthur probably met b/c Truman didn't take office until FDR's third or fourth term, the year was 1945 I believe, in which Roosevelt died of health dificulties and Truman took over until 52' I believe.

For all his faults, McArthur's leapfrog tactics in the pacific worked pretty good.

Lol, that's just because he was so full of himself.

There's a story of when FDR ..maybe Truman..was flying in and MacArthur's plane was flying as well. And pretending it was courtesy, MacArthur told them to put the President's plane down first. The president refused, and after about 30 minutes in the air, MacArthur was forced to land first. The only reason is because he wanted his landing to upstage the President's and the President would not allow it.

true enough but the man was not a good leader fo example the forces under his command we're reffered to in all his dispatches as "Macarthur's Army" as if he was doing everything they did

what little he did. 90% of everything important done in the pacific was done by the Marines led by General Howlin Mad Smith but what the army did do they did get the job done

His lip service aside, you can't debate the fact that he got his job done, and did it with efficiency. Eventually, though, a President has to ask themself if all of that success is worth it.

He was a scum though he was commander of the filipino army before WW2 and sayed that he had 10,000 equipped and trained men, reality: 4,000 trained 2,000 equipped

An idiot who was full of himself. Single-handedly increased the Korean conflict. Was an egomaniac. I mean, the Bonus Army incident? Reckless and stupid.

However, I'm not gonna dispute his military brilliance. (Korea aside.) The man was a militaristic genius. But no one is perfect, so much like commanders before him, he had his drawbacks.
