The Clinton Global Initiative University is a new project of the Clinton Global Initiative that will engage college students to make commitments to address global issues with practical, innovative solutions and is taking place right now at Tulane University in New Orleans.
CGI U is convening 700 college students, leading non-profit organizations, social entrepreneurs, youth leaders, and university presidents and administrators to discuss how student activists can make a difference around the world. Other attendees will include New Orleans Mayor Ray Nagin, Brad Pitt, Lance Armstrong, Laurie David, James Carville, Lauren Bush, Dave Eggers, and New Orleans Recovery Chief Dr. Ed Blakely.
The event commenced this morning with an opening plenary session featuring President Clinton, the Mayor of New Orleans, Ray C. Nagin, Lance Armstrong, the President of Cornell University, David Skorton, and Brittany Cochran, a graduate student of Xavier University of Louisiana.
Following was a press conference with President Clinton and then break-out sessions began on the meeting's four areas of focus: energy and climate change, human rights and peace, global health, and poverty alleviation.
