When people see soemthing they don't like such as rape, abuse, teen pregnancy, etc, people tend to look away so they won't have to see the pain people are in, instead of helping. Every year is getting worse. More Pain and more suffering. I think alot of people (Not saying you are like that) needs to quite looking away and start putting in a hand.

I think a lot of people are afraid when they see these things, and so they try and pretend they don't happen. I completely agree this is wrong. If more people don't start stepping up,things are only going to get worse.

believe it or not, if i saw anything bad happening, especially rape, I would do something about it; I'd probably take the law into my own hands, and knock the shit outta the person doing the rape. That is something i do not tolerate, and those who partake of such activities should be made to eat their own genitalia and forced to die a slow and grueling death... Smile.

On the other hand, I do not believe it is necessary to go out of one's way to stop such activities as occuring as an idea, because it is not society's fault as a whole; it is mostly the individuals own poor choices. How do we make society asa whole better? Cleanse the society of poor choicemakers? No. that is impossible. AS members of society, we must make better choices to counteract those individuals who fail to make good choices like rapists or child molesters. By doing so, we are improving society. By wasting your time trying to "correct" an idea such as rape, an idea that has been present since the dawn of time (most likely; at least the beginning of history), and carried out since the dawn of time, is not helping society. When a person finds themselves in a situation where, "hey there is a rape occuring at this instance in time down that dark alleyway," they should not run or ignore it. They should fight, call the police, do something. However, when a person says "hey I am going to prevent rape from ever occuring here again," it is a failure or rather stagnation for society, because rape will occur elsewhere again and again, and even if you could protect people in that dark alleyway for the rest of time, a rapist will merely act again elsewhere according to the laws of probability.

Spoken like a true realist Saturn , but the what if you can see a rape or a murder going on and knowing you'l get into a whole lot of trouble if you do report it , will you do something about it or not??

you don't even imagine the horrors in this world, nor do i, but there are far worse things then those you suggest. THat is of course besides the point.

People can't preoccupy themselves with these problems because you will never stop rape, abuse, teen pregnancy, etc. Socailly, those problems will always exist, becuase as humans we are inclined to such things. We can talk to teens for decades and try to tell them to have safe sex, we can increase legislation strengthening abuse laws, and try to thwat rapists anyway we can, but the fact is that they will always exist because individuals make different choices and have different motives, and society cannot predict what sort of choices, however poor they may be, and prevent foolish actions from being carried out.

You are expected to live your life and better society in your own way through your own unique calling, you cannot waste your time trying to attack these problems directly expecting a direct result, for one will not come. You must attack these problems indirectly, and you cannot allow their disposal to run your focus in life. You cannot ignore them, but at the same time you cannot be forced to let someone else tell you how much of a horrible world it is, and allow them to demean your existence because it is not filled with as much suffering as others.

Its the difference between being an idealist and a realist i guess .For example my friends and i have been really into this Tiger conservation thing recently . One of them wants to complete college join the forrest department and revamp the system . In any country thats being a tad optimistic ...in India its being downright dumb .But you know what because he has such a lofty goal he may atleast achieve like a quarter of it which would still mean a lot
Thats just it see , people may not involve themselves and completely help but they will still do their bit and maybe like you just talk about stuff on YN and places , thats still helping though in a more subtle way .

and on the subject of looking away i think its mroe or less that people look away as long as it doesnt effect them or there envirorment.

That makes no sense. You laugh at pain in amusment, but if something bad is happening you will go and try to stop it. Isn't pain usually caused by something bad happening?

NO IT IS EVERYBODY'S PROBLEM YOU ARE ABSOLUTLY RIGHT WE SHOULD START TO TAKE THOSE THINGS IN CONSIDERATION BECAUSE THOSE ARE VERY IMPORTANT ISSUES THAT EFFECT ALL OF US AND IT IS SOO TRUE WE SHOULD START DOING THINGS ABOUT IT SO IF YOU AGREE WITH ME I THINK WE SHOULD SHARE IDEAS ABOUT WHAT ARE THE THINGS WE COULD DO AND TURN THEM INTO LIVE ACTION

There are many reasons why people, "Look away." One, it may be dangerous to meddle in other peoples' personal affairs. Two, people should help those that help themselves-- IF THEY ARE CAPABLE. It makes no sense to try to help someone else when one's own life is an unmanaged mess. I find via observation, that many are unqualified to help. In other words, he/she ends up enabling the undesired pattern of behavior by providing money and resources to the problem. If one can not help, provide information appropriate to those whom can. I.E., witnessing a rape, call the police. Witnessing child abuse, notify your state's child protection services (anonymously), teen pregnancy- none of your business, unless you are a family member or part of the social system that warrants such intrusion (Priest, Guidance Counselor, etc.)

He's a newbie. What more can you expect when you see that and see how long they've been here. It just seems that those two things go together.

such as cutting, there were 9 different posts on one page that had people asking for help, asking how to stop. Adults don't teach kids how to deal with these kinds of things, so we live in a world of confusing pain

Well I know that a lot of people when they find out that I have been a victim of child abuse and sexual abuse they dont really know what to say and so they don't say anything. They feel bad, and they want to help I think... but perhaps they don't know how??? what we who do know how to help should do is to tell those who don't know how so we can all be better. These are my thoughts
