I agree with Locks of Love.

Hey all, I've heard rumblings that we may be featuring on of the orgs listed on this page for December but look for the polls to be making their comeback soon!

May I suggest, for the third time I believe, Covenant House? http://www.covenanthouse.org/It's privately owned, I don't think it receives federal funding. It helps teens and young adults who are in some sort of trouble and it has a variety of programs based on the individual need.

I would love to suggest something, but I don't rightly know good organizations that support my cause. I know a lot for the Environment, such as the Nature Conservancy, Defenders of Wildlife, but I don't know much about the strictly pro-trans organizations. I couldn't do HRC (Human Rights Coalition). They have shown their position on the issue by proposing a work protection bill that doesn't include trans people. The Task Force is all GLBT, not specifically T. American Boyz would be a prime one, but I don't think they exist anymore. I'm just saying that maybe some of us don't do it because we don't know the right group to suggest, or even any group to suggest.

So after commenting to the staff about the latest J1Cs, and asking to return to a vote, I was told that there have been little to no suggestions for organizations lately, so I'm bumping this thread. I asked some of my clustermates what organizations they support, and here's a list we came up with: * indicates that these organizations can also be supported via i'm Making A Difference. Not all of these organizations will work, but just generate some ideas.

We're at about $123. I really don't like this. I know YN's position that it is important to have a lot of people contributing towards the campaign, and that J1C is good for exposing us to new organizations. Could we perhaps throw around the idea of having some sort of additional campaign where we can somehow raise money for good causes? I would really like to see YN support a way for a small group of committed people to make a difference more easily. (Hence the sig...)

The Current J1C song... Late one night Quarter past three I went to Click Fifty times three I clicked the red words My heart fluttered with glee When to my surprise No clicks were given to me I screamed and I shouted I cried and I pouted Wishing my clicks to appear I wrote and I writhed I spoke and I tithed But nothing would bring my clicks here Madness arrived I clicked in disguise Still they would not be seen I pondered And wondered Why were the clicks so mean? My keyboard was bloody No longer my buddy As my clicks refused to arise My temper impatience Clicks controlled by a facist I yearned for a surprise Suddenly ONE! Followed by none... My clicks were completely gone.

We will be starting the July J1C very soon. If you would like to submit an organization please send it in asap! Ginger has told us that in light of the change in technology we will be changing our policy to convert clicks into contributions whether or not the 100,000 click threshold has been met up to $1000. This will mean the "Building with Books" campaign as well and thanks to your clicks, we will indeed be making a donation to this cause. The amount per click will remain the same. There may be a few more changes in the near future with our J1C but we will update you to let you know what will be going on as we move forward.

J1C makes my soul sad. It is disheartening to work so hard on something with nothing to show for your efforts but a meager number on a screen. However, I am still proud of the YN community. We made it to 25,000 clicks in a month. With the 300 click limitation, this means that at least 84 individuals had to participate for us to achieve this. Despite the fact that Building With Books will not be receiving any money from our efforts, at least we have both raised awareness about the organization and pushed our own limits. We exceeded my personal expectations and I think we all learned a lot. It may not be good for the kids we were seeking to help, but at least we came away with more of an understanding of those less fortunate than ourselves. I think we also learned a lot about the mediums we choose to show our support for organizations. In the future, I hope that we find other ways to support organizations such as Building With Books, instead of simply relying on YN as a crutch for our charitable actions. Crutches are not always the most reliable means to get from point A to point B. I would love for something good to come of this miserable J1C month. Please keep this in mind in future instances when faced with adversity.

Is it possible, when people sign up for YN, to have a screen that has an outline of things that are on YN, like the J1C?

*sigh* You got me there Ikki. I wonder what Margaret Mead would do if she was here... I'm almost thinking we should just give up with the whole J1C thing and figure out a different/better way to get money to organizations. If the system doesn't work for you, don't work for it. Thoughts?
