YAB meeting at 4pm Pacific! Be there or face a wrath never seen before by anyone who lived to tell the story.

you spend an insane amount of time on the boards regardless of being a mod so that argument falls flat dear However we can just grandfather it and leave it at that

As long as their duties as one do not interfere with the other? Yes. In fact, I think it would give some great insight to Congress if some of the members were working as janitorial staff...just as being a mod and spending a lot of time on the boards can help give me a unique view as a youth advisor for the site.

I don't really have time to read this whole topic, as I should be sleeping right now. What is the Advisory Board? And, ah.. more info so I can understand?

so just because someone is qualified for congress and being a janitor they should be allowed to do both at the same time? Sides do you honestly have the time to watch the boards and do YAB? Seriously miss megs you have pre-law to think about for the majority of the year and that's a large helping on any one's plate to say nothing of all the other things you do with your time.

quote: and I was thinking, would it be more fair on some level to make it so you can't be a Mod and on the YAB? I know a few of us are pulling double duty and it's really not fair to give them all of that work in addition to their rather busy normal lives and it limits newer peoples opportunities to get involved further on the site.
I'm both. They are two completely different things though, and I think that if someone is qualified for both positions, they should be permitted to hold them. At the very least, grandfather this rule in...

ah excellent, but I'm sure a good chunk of those don't even remember what YN is any more... ah well that's the point of calling for applications I suppose and I was thinking, would it be more fair on some level to make it so you can't be a Mod and on the YAB? I know a few of us are pulling double duty and it's really not fair to give them all of that work in addition to their rather busy normal lives and it limits newer peoples opportunities to get involved further on the site.

On a side note, it's depressing how the slow the boards are recently.

Just because we don't show up at the YN boards, doesn't mean we don't show up at all. I haven't showed up on the boards recently, but I did an interview on the show "Dialogo de Costa a Costa", on HITN, basically promoting YN to an Hispanic community. Being a YAB member since the thing started... I don't feel we actually make any huge decision or difference here, at least anymore. And I don't get what the hell a CitiJo is, and from my understanding, I can't participate in it because I'm not in the US. I think if we did the meetings online instead of through calls, more people would show. Calling is sometimes difficult for different reasons, in my case, it costs money to call abroad. Money that I don't have at this moment. Meh, this is gonna be a sour note, but, I've noticed some of us get virtually ignored during the calls. Whiny, I know. I think the YAB members should be given specific tasks, rather than have them thrown at us for us to pick. Some of us can write articles, others can focus on promoting YN, etc. I think that's a more efficent tactic.

Rumor has it we are having a meeting in July. I was wondering if anything has been set yet. I have a feeling we would get a larger turnout for meetings if we got more than a few days notice...

They really should... Also, has any progress been made towards updating the "about" page? I sent in my bio in December or so, and it's kind of frustrating to not see it posted yet...

I am still waiting on an actual answer to this concern... I e-mailed Colleen on June 15 about when we would next be meeting, and have not yet received a response. It's becoming more and more obvious with the site that the YAB hasn't been meeting. If there is something I can do to expedite the meeting process, please let me know.

I was bored, so I looked a few things up: First off, from April 09, 2005 05:49 AM (by YNLissa): quote: Applications will be accepted until we fill our 8 person Youth Advisory Board. At that point we will continue to accept applications to fill vacancies as they occur. We will keep you updated as slots fill.
Secondly, from April 08, 2005 06:33 PM (by YNModerator): quote: The Youth Advisory Board (YAB) will be a group of youth who will advise YN on the direction the organization should be taking. As we grow, we want the YN community to inform us about what is needed, helpful, etc.. The Youth Advisory Board would take a look at what we are doing, comment on some ideas, contribute ideas and tell us their thoughts and suggestions on ways to improve the site. An example might be around what we currently call the YN Radio project. We would like to have functionality on the site for our users to upload their own cause-related music compositions to the site for all YN users to hear and vote on. We would like to run this idea and others past the YN Youth Advisory Board and see if they think it would be worth pursuing. Another area where the Youth Advisory Board would be involved would be around a possible site redesign. We will involve the YAB in selecting designs, developing better site navigation, etc. Also, we will ask our YAB to be Ambassadors for YN, helping us spread the word, as we make the whole effort better. And we hope this group may help us make decisions about content we select, projects the community undertakes, how to build programs that allow the YN community to financially support this site. Within this group of eight Youth Advisory Board members, we would like to have two people represent the group on the Board of Directors and join us at meetings and events throughout the year.
Original post: quote: Anybody out there interested in getting more involved with YOUTH NOISE? Listen up! YN is looking for eight Youths for the Teen Advisory Board. Here's the lowdown:
You gotta be a member for at least one year to apply-- you know, have a little experience under your belt. You need to send in a brief bio on your education and any extracurricular activities that you're in--see, that Lucille Ball Look Alike Club really can come in handy!
You also need a couple of good words from two references-- at least one teacher and one personal reccomendation (which can be a teacher, too). Word to the wise: asking Mrs. Robinson to help you out after having your Ludacris ring tone go off in the middle of her famous 'zygote' lecture isn't going to earn you bonus points. Pick somebody else.
Are you up for this commitment? You gotta be ready for a quarterly conference call with the Advisory Board. Don't worry, it's after school, and these things are a lot of fun-- like three-way calling times ten. You'll also need to have a monthly call with the Executive Director with some e-mails in between to keep in touch about what's going on. If you're near the area, you might even get to go to annual meetings with YOUTH NOISE picking up the expense tab! If all of this sounds like fun, make sure you apply today. It will be great for your college aps and resume, and you'll get to make more NOISE by having your opinion counted! So what are you waiting for? Apply already!
