maybe on other forums but not YN. A YN mod's job is to keep the boards fair and free of personal attacks, porn, spamming, etc. YN is not the typical forum and you can't treat it like it is Wink

Think about it, the moderators have a job, mods arn't there to be representative of the YNers.
It doesn't matter. They police the boards and NMers should trust (and know) the people who are in charge of keeping the boards running smoothly.

Such as? I thought mods edited posts and kept things in contro, what does that have to do with how the owner wants it?

Crazy question, why would you vote on moderators? Think about it, the moderators have a job, mods arn't there to be representative of the YNers. A mod team does what they think is best for the forum based on how the OWNER wants it run. One of the HUGE misconceptions people have about message boards is that they seem to have this belief that they have untangable rights, when in fact they dont have any.

You have the right to your opinion until the owner doesn't agree with it.
You have the right to free speech until the owner doesn't like it.
You have the right to do whatever you want until the owner has a problem with it.

A mods job is to work for the owner to help keep the forums headed in a direction acceptable to the owner/and in this case sponcers.

That's what I meant. Like my band director looks at the votes for section leader to see who people want but ultimately decides it himself.

Ya, I think the vote sounds like a really good idea. But, I think that there should be a vote, just so the YN staff can look at it and think, "hmm... well the NMs think that this person would be fair, and their answers were good, so..." kind of thing... I think it shouldn't be the sole determination of who gets chosen, but I think it would be a helpful factor... Smile

I actually agree, Ikki...I mean, the most popular people on here tend to be the most fair anyway and a lot of those people who have applied. So I think the vote might actually work in favor of those qualified.

But I think the mods just really want to make sure that good people are chosen.

Honestly, this whole application business seemed weird to me from the beggining. I mean, why not just watch the forums for a couple weeks or months and find out who is fair , and tends to settle disputes. They are natural moderators.

I agree with you there.

I also think it would be cool to see the applications and vote for the mod instead of having it be chosen for us. I know that would cause a lot of problems, but really, who better to pick who should be a mod than the people who will be moderated?

But again, it WOULD cause a lot of issues because people may vote more for popularity or laxness than whether or not the mod would do a good job.

I hope he came unannounced because it's becoming alittle much if you have to go inperson for an unpaid volunteer job. Keep it easy folks eh?

Nope I had a scheduled meeting. I have been posting on forums for over 6 years, so I gave a little insight on how things could be done to help the forums run smoother. I was also one of the people to first advocate peer mods. I go to school in San Francisco, so it wasnt a bother for me to visit.

not tiring to make people mad that i applied. That first post was a little weak on my part, but it accomplised what i wanted.. meeting people on here
I don't think anyone was truly upset that you applied, and there really is nothing wrong with you doing so. Smile Alot of people sign up for YN and just keep checking the boards without saying anything right away. So no sweat. Welcome to YouthNOISE boards(since your really not new to YN Wink), I'm Ohio. I hope you like it here and continue to keep posting. Smile

p.s-- I'm sure you'd make a great mod.

And posting it i was really just trying to meet the people on here, not tiring to make people mad that i applied. That first post was a little weak on my part, but it accomplised what i wanted.. meeting people on here. Wink

Worth, I think that you and Ohio would be excellent mods. I considered applying, but I did not.

Thanks Blue for thinking that. It's very sweet. I think worth would be great. And I think that you would too, if only you had applied Frown

Still being a moderator means being somewhat considerate/understanding. Your previous post did not show that IMO.

Lissa, are you going by the dates in the profile or under the avatar for signup dates?

Hey, noluv, welcome to YN. Instead of posting more than once in a row, use the edit feature (the small folder icon with a pencil eraser on it) in the top right of each post. Multiple posts in a row annoy many of the NOISEmakers.
