We all complain about newbies and how uneducated they are about the boards so I propose we change this with the YN Newbie Guide which will include such core guidelines like "Lurk and Learn" and "Type in Plain English so we can understand what the heck your saying" "Don't practice necromancy" (that is bringing back long dead threads) what say the rest of you?
"The very existence of flamethrowers proves that sometime, somewhere, someone said to themselves, "You know, I want to set those people over there on fire, but I'm just not close enough to get the job done"."

I'd have to agree.
I just joined this site, and I believe that would help greatly. (:
This site is a bit confusing. ^^;

It must be lovely to wake up in the morning and understand everything.

Well there is a little something near the top of this page called "NEW USERS GUIDE". Clearly though that hasn't helped much.

I hadn't thought of it that way. That's actually a very good idea. "You learn about equality in the classroom but you find out about it in life" - Campus Confidential www.myspace.com/yogore

Also, I remembered too...on the sites I found these quizes on, the answers were always incredibly ovious. However, it was clever, because while you were reading the four options looking for the one that actually answered the question, you were reading the rules...

They left eventually though. It's not perfect, but most of the time they leave. "You learn about equality in the classroom but you find out about it in life" - Campus Confidential www.myspace.com/yogore

Not always. I can think of a number of YNers who were too stubborn/foolish to realize they were being eaten alive for poor board etiquette and stuck around for months, never learning a thing.

YN is meant to give access to everyone. A quiz wouldn't be practical for their goal. Frankly, the people who can't survive on the boards leave. The ones who can, stay. "You learn about equality in the classroom but you find out about it in life" - Campus Confidential www.myspace.com/yogore

I third the quiz idea. It's bound to prevent a few people from joining the site, but I'm not sure anyone who can't be bothered to answer a few quick questions about board etiquette is worth having on the site anyway.

I know on some sites, they have a mini quiz that you take instead of clicking on something that says "I've read the rules of play..." You can take the quiz as many times as you want, but you have to pass before they let you access the site...

Because most obveously don't understand it. :P
That's not YN's fault... If you need help with debate, pick up a LSAT prep book...the part that prepares you for writing teaches you how to tear apart the structure of arguments... Now with content...good luck with that...
