Hey Everyone,
I'm new to youth noise and I am currently directing an event that will take place the first saturday in march regarding breast Cancer. This event "Body and Soul Youth Summit" will be to teach youth about Breast cancer and how to take care of their bodies. I believe that it is absolutely outrageous that we as youth know how to deal with a common cold but when it comes to something that can kill you, we know nothing. I would like to know what are some good ways to get the information across to people our age. If you have any ideas or even thoughts on the matter I would appreciate your input. I feel that this event will do great things and I hope you can be a part of that.

The Body and Soul Youth Summit Confrence of 2007 exists to unite, empower and evangalize young women ages 13-18 through a 1-day confrence. Charisms of these events will center around a tri-part theme of body, mind and spirit, including inspired witnessing/ motivational speakers, fashion shows, nutritional and health information, excercises and etc.- all aimed at the awakening and empowering of young women to achieve success in mind body and spirit. At the heart of this summit is breast health and breast cancer awarness. This expierence will enable the youth to join the fight against Breast Cancer that affects every woman regardless of age, color, or creed. It empowers young women to take an active role in thier sucessful healthy future.
This event will also teach young ladies how to deal with stress and also teach them how to be young women. This is the purpose for the title Body and Soul. I personally feel that early detection makes a diffrence in the results.
Knowledge is power and by having the correct knowledge early in life could save a life. Did you know that as soon as a child is born that they already have breast tissue which means you can get breast cancer as early as the age of 13. i know thatr it is very unlikely for some one that young to get Breast cancer but it is still possible, and if this event helps one person out of the hundred that is expected..it has been a success.

I guess what I'm wondering is what you really hope to achieve from this summit.

I mean, don't get me wrong, I know that breast cancer is a terrible disease...I just don't know how preventable it is. There is a gene called BrCa1 which makes certain women more susceptable to breast cancer. I don't know how much (if any) impact lifestyle choices make on whether or not a woman will end up with breast cancer.

Obviously self exams and mammograms can help with early detection so that it is more likely to respond to treatment, but I guess I really don't know how much more substance you can really put into an event like this.

My personal suggestion would be to broaden the scope of the program and discuss some different health issues as well...I just don't know that there is enough to talk about, without making it seem very redundant.
