Hey NOISEmakers,

In recent months, YN has covered issues such as Civil Rights, Drug Abuse, Youth Rights, Suicide Prevention, Child Abuse, Self Injury, Eating Disorders, Voting...

What other issues and causes you'd like to see us cover on the site? Any particular resources you'd like us to help dig up? Is there a nonprofit organization you'd like us to highlight in an article or in our Yellow Pages? Are YOU an activist that would like your cause and actions highlighted on YouthNOISE?

Thanks!
YNLissa

P.S. Are you interested in writing for YouthNOISE? If so, email us: submissions at youthnoise.com

I would like to see CF (Cystic Fibrosis) highlighted on the site. I know someone that has CF and I think the more we know about it the more we can do to find a cure.

I have not yet reached my goal, and I am not perfect. But Christ has taken hold of me. So I keep on running and struggling to take hold of the prize. My friends, I don't feel that I have already arrived. But I forget what is behind, and I struggle for wha

I'm new to youthnoise, so this may have been previously posted, but it's worth a try just in case it hasn't...

Please check out Freedom's Answer. It's the nation's largest non-partisan voter turnout campaign and it's led by students all over the country, most of whom are too young to vote! Our goal is to shatter the all-time national voter turnout record this year by having youth from all 50 states working to get voter pledges. It's an incredible organization made up of some of the country's most amazing young leaders! Check it out at www.freedomsanswer.net

I would like to see some more people working for the MDA (Muscular Dystrophy Association).

Smile thank you very much JesusChick for drawing attention to this very iomportant group. i have personally seen effects of MD, and the more help that is avaliable the better. It is a not very well known charity so anything that is done would be great. I would be happy with anything but I personally support the CMDA (Candian Muscular Dystrophy Association).

I can see your point about ocassional use, but how is "excessive" use of drugs not drug abuse. What then would be classified as abuse?

I would like to see some more people working for the MDA (Muscular Dystrophy Association). The LATE Mattie Stephanek, who has touched alot of peoples lives, had a rare form of MD. To find out how to donate money, go to Billyheads for the MDA

Probably the point where it hurts someone, in which case, it would be your first smoke.

YN, what kinds of S-I have you covered? I hope not just cutting, cause there's a lot more.

i hate the term "drug abuse"....i dont consider the occasional use of drugs abuse(or even excessive use)....if you want to relate to kids who use drugs, try and be less formal and try and get on their level...maybe make an article that drug-using teens can relate to w/o feeling judged and counseled.

Suicides, and what people suicide for. Here's a site if you don't want to ignore us trans people.

transgender suicides

and also this one...

gay suicides

I'm not biased, also, I'm just sure you can find more info on other reasons.

Big Grin It's not that depressing of a topic, it's just informitive.

Really. I was thinking about the slant and bias in that very same subject in the "Yellow Pages".

Since half the organizations listed in the YP under gun violence are lobbying organizations, why not try for a little bit of balance and also put in:

National Rifle Association Political Victory Fund

Gun Owners of America

If you want only non-profit and education links, try:

National Rifle Association (main site w/ safety training links)

Second Amendment Foundation

If you want REAL educational sites w/ respect to guns and kids:

John Lott (AEI) New Website

Old John Lott Website

Guncite (biased towards pro-gun side, but a good clearinghouse of studies and information)

The latter and the first John Lott site are the best resources available for those who want to understand gun violence. However, judging by the large number anti-gun references in Youthnoise's Yellowpages, it will only begin to balance those out. But it's a start.
