YN is a youth site. Well, at least it supposed to be. But in my opinion, it's not doing a very good job of doing that. This is because as long as swears are allowed, the like-ness of this being a youth site is low. Now, I was never here when the no swearing rule was in effect, but I would like it's return. YN has to realize that swears should not be allowed. Do we really want today's youth to be saying inappropriate things? If YouthNoise is going to continue its status as a youth website, it MUST return a no swearing policy. I have been thinking about leaving YN because of repeated swearing on some of the forums. Please don't ruin it for me.
There is a point in our lives where we can do what is easy, or we can do what is right.
Also, I don't know what kind of PG 13 movies you watch, but there is much more vulgar language on youthNOISE.
Not all the time. There are a lot of PG-13 movies out there (none are coming to me off the top of my head since I haven't paid ratings too much attention in about five years) that are worse than R-rated movies in terms of language. And I wasn't really comparing the two; I just wanted your opinion.
Oh the filter. You can still get around what little is filtered on it. And besides, if parents don't want there kids exposed, they should look at the history of the browser, block websites, stay in the room with the kid while they are using the internet. It's not that hard of a thing to do.

Did I already mention that I find asterisks highly offensive? I mean, they just sit there, like miniature stars, mocking you. "Oh look, I'm hiding an offensive word! Aren't I special?" Sickening little buggers.
It goes a long way in showing how different I am from joey and BS when I say that I find today's YN to be a much, much better place. Of course, I do miss the likes of Celtic and bauhaus, but things are a lot less divisive these days.
Anyone find it interesting that there are only two or three people complaining about the lack of a filter?

You want to know what a filter does? It makes it so that when I refer to an innocent "mass", it appears m***...where a theoretical swear word "orange" just shows up as "0r4nge" or "o.range" or "ornge" or "o r a n g e."

Comparing youthNOISE to a PG-13 movie is absurd: they are two different things. To see a PG 13 movie you have to leave your house, use transportation to get to the movie, and pay for the movie. If you watch it at home you have to somehow deliver it to your home. YouthNOISE is a WEBSITE, that can be accessed by any computer in any home. Parents will, by nature be much more involved in the viewing of movies than the use of website. While I agree that most of the problems lie in parenting, I would be shocked to learn that youthNOISE has the ability to create an appropriate enviornment but is unwilling to do so because they just blame parents. Also, I don't know what kind of PG 13 movies you watch, but there is much more vulgar language on youthNOISE.

Eh. Thirteen year olds are old enough to hear/see that kind of stuff. They aren't just little kids like everyone thinks; One of my best friends is 13, and she's just like a normal human being.

"Fuck" and "nigger" are not inherently offensive words. No word is. However, when used a certain way, they become offensive. When used to insult a person, "nigger" is extremely offensive. When used repeatedly with the sole purpose to disrupt a thread, any word is offensive. If I was to write a post consisting of the word "orange" repeated 500 times, it would be deleted. And not because "orange" is considered to be an offensive word.
YN may be a youth website, but if you haven't heard or seen a curse word by the time you're 13, you're pretty sheltered.

Yes, there are people under thirteen who create an account on YN. However, I do know of instances where those who have have had their profiles deleted for not being at least 13 when they say they aren't.
Sometimes, in my opinion, it is up to parents to monitor websites for those below 13-15. A website that relies on people's posts can't control everything they say, even if they tried.

I find it troubling that Bushsupporter's post repeating the word "nigger" was removed from youthNOISE for two reasons:
1) This debate has made it very clear that youthNOISE does not support a filter - thus any language that is not directed at an individual NOISEmaker is permited. Because of this, Bushsupporter's post should not have been deleted. The Rules of Play imply that the word "nigger" should not be tolerated if directed at a NOISEmaker, not for simply saying it. If this rule is true why hasn't the word "nigger" been deleted from every post on this thread? YouthNOISE's policy is very arbitrary.
2) Various NOISEmakers, and NightSkyMod, have stated Bushsupporter's, was deleted because it violated the rules of play (Using the same word over and over again is considered disruptive.). Both myself, and Bushsupporter, have reported a board that repeats FUCK over and over and it has never been deleted. It was shocking to read that Ginger said a board would be reviewed if it was reported by more than two people; however, that was not the case here. You can see the board here. If it is true that simply repeating a word over and over again is a violation of the rules of play, why hasn't this post been edited yet?
A quick look at the profile of NOISEmakers shows us that there are people ages 8, 10, 11, 12 and so on. I don't think there parents would be to thrilled their children are using a website that does nothing about monitoring foul language.
In general, youthNOISE's inability to monitor the boards in a fair fashion, youthNOISE's inability to communicate with NOISEmakers who voice concerns, the rouge and absolute nature of Mods, the contradictory nature of youthNOISE policies, and the constant foul language on the boards have made YouthNOISE less of a fund place to visit than it was in the past.

A flaw in your argumentative counterexample: When a post disrupts the flow of discussion (for example, if it simply states one word over and over and over again) it violates the Rules of Play, and then YN is more than justified in removing it.

This is about free speech, right? If people should be able to "express" themselves the way that they want OK. But it is clear that YN has drawn a line. Cursing for no reason is fine but racial slurs for no reason are not. Hmmm, interesting. Because it has been demonstrated that there should be a line, I would contend that the argument is simply over where the line should be not about the line itself.
I think that "fuck" should be on the same side of the line as "nigger".
This is not America, it is not a government, it is not a rally or protest, this is a YOUTH site. Why can you not support minimum standards of decency.

So far I have not seen them being used in their normal context, & I was not saying that we should filter them. I was responding to Bushsupporter who said that Fuck & Nigger were basicly the same on an offensive level. I am against any kind of a filter, but I am also strongly against the use of the word Nigger & the claim that racial slurs & curse words are the same. I do agree with your point however.
