Google has always been a favourite success story. College kids comin up with a brilliant idea ...actually makin it work....billionares today.
Google Search is the dictionary word for Search Engines today.
Google Earth which started the first privacy contraversy issues is now followed by the Google Street-View Maps of San Francisco. For those who havent heard as yet its basically where you can actually map out your way or even check-out the kinda crowd at the beach or a favourite restaurant front with the help of a realistic view of the location . The kinda images they have right now are like a candid camera show with people caught picking their noses and so on, hence the nickname.
The Google people basically drove around these places with video cameras to get the images and update the videos periodically.
Google is not the first company to try this. Amazon.com launched a similar mapping feature in January 2005 on a search engine called A9.com. That search engine’s former chief executive, Udi Manber, now works for Google.

SO are you cool with this kinda technology or is it a privacy issue??

If it could be seen by the Google picture van (which was driving on public streets), it could have been seen by anyone there at the time. It's not a privacy concern if it's in public. This is no different than someone standing on the sidewalk looking at, say, your house. You can't say they're invading your privacy unless they're peeking directly into your windows. True, this can be done in Street View at times if you zoom in far enough, but it's still your fault for doing something you don't want seen while in full view of the street.

I worked on verifying the accuracy of some of A9's images on Amazon's Mechanical Turk before the asshole bot swarm came down, and it's all pretty innocuous. Just your average city sidewalk shot from a car window.

The essential randomness of their image collection obviates any real privacy concerns unless they begin to index people in the images as well, which I would imagine is impractical if not impossible presently.

Those who profess to favor freedom and yet depreciate agitation are men who want crops without plowing up the ground, they want rain without thunder and lightning. They want the ocean without the roar of its many waters. Frederick Douglass
