Recently, well, yesterday, I was photographed without my knowledge or permission, and was printed on the front page of my local newspaper (The Ashland Daily Tidings) without my knowledge or permission, with a story about drunken, drug addicted vagrants. For one point, I know most of the vagrants in my town personally, and they aren't so bad as the newspaper says, for another, who is the newspaper to say that I am one of these people? They saw my apperance and took my picture and used it. I feel highly insulted and unwelcomed in my community. I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions as to which actions I should take. Read the article/see the pictures here

Barring some local ordinance, your dad is wrong, at least in the case of people being recognizable. I've seen cases where people have tried to sue newspapers and whatnot for publishing pictures of them in comprimising situations in public, and the person bringing the suit has almost always lost. As for license plates and whatnot, that might require consent, however it's still public information as it's displayed on your car for all to see.

If I ever get onto the New York Times staff I'm going to take a picture of some random person on the street waiting for a bus, then publish it in color on the front page with the headline "Transvestite crack-whore turns tricks at corner!". That random person will be Yogore.

But to have your picture used in the wrong context, I don't see how that could possibly be condoned.

I had thought that your picture could not be used without your permission if you were a main focus point in the picture. For example, I know some people who cannot be photographed because they are hiding from abusive spouses, etc. but that does not mean they can't go places where they'll bhe sure they won;t see them. A newspaper should be able tot ake their picture and publish it without their permission because there may be cuircumstances where they don't want to be in the press. Yes. That was the point.

i had just walked out of a store, and in the picture, im looking directly at the camera, holding a new pair of sunglasses and a recipt- two friends of mine were sitting on the sidewalk a few feet ahead of me... its not really THAT big of a deal.. Im not even going to write a letter to the editor anymore.. even though it really bothered me and I was very, very offended, the whole subject, here in ashland, is creating too much fuss and crap for me to want to be a part of.

So what is the picture like? Are you the only one in it? What are you doing in it? You could blow up the newspaper station. That would fix everything. Also, go be anarchical, edgy, and rebelious with clpo around Dr. S. He'll get so mad he'll defecate all over himself. Even in his own mouth.

Im not trying to be anything. As soon as I posted anything on this website everyone jumped all over me and started trying to offend me. I dont care what you think of me, much less wether or not you think im "edgy or rebellious"- if I cared, I would have stopped replying to this stuff. I dont want to fight with you people.. leave me alone.

I think the issue is that the community wants a law passed. Also it's pretty friggin' immature to just say "screw the community". Yeah, lets just all live in a culturless "society" that's more or less consumerist anarchy. That's where we're headed.
