It's that kind of attitude that gets the world no where. I mean yeah, ultimately a petition or a rally would be better then this. Why don't you set one up?

I don't disagree, right here, right now, I can do nothing to change that law. But I am glad to know that you do think it is something to be upset about.

Indeed it doesn't. I'm not saying we should throw our hands up and say "Oh, since it's the law, it's all right then." Anything but. However, what are we going to do about it? How can a few horrified Western teenagers challenge the accepted laws of an entire Muslim nation, especially when this nation is on our President's hit list of "evil" countries?

It ain't gonna happen. We needn't accept it, but we also shouldn't waste our time griping about it. The West has their own outdated justice system to worry about.

Just becuase it's the law, doesn't mean it's right. I mean, there are many laws that I think probably are bad, and I'm sure there's atleast one you don't agree with. Are you saying we shouldn't view something as bad just b/c it's the legally accepted thing?

It may not seem fair to us Westerners, but that's how it's been in Islam for hundreds of years.

As a victim of sexual abuse and having taken it to court where he was tried and found guilty and sentenced with prison... I can say with all honesty, she acted in self defense and it was a totally justified reaction. She was afraid, she didn't know what to do. Being in that situation isn't something where you think about a logical action. You are afraid and you just want to get out.

You say she shouldn't have killed him, but what are you offering as an alternative? Do you honestly advocate that she just let herself be raped? Is that what you would do? It is easy for you to say that you would, but you can't know because you've never dealt with it.

There is a difference between assault and sexual assualt. Assault is just a regular physical attack with or without a weapon with the intent to cause bodily harm. Sexual assault is an attack that involves anything of a sexual nature with or without a weapon with the intent to cause bodily harm. You being attacked by someone with a knife: Assault. You being attacked by someone who pulls your pants down and cuts up your genitals with a knife and rapes you: Sexual Assault.

Sexual assault.

I never said that he didn't, but she still got what she deserved.

And it would actually be assualt with a deadly weapon, seeing as how there would be a knife involved.

Perhaps it is, but that would no longer be rape, and it would be considered assault.

I would have killed the guy as well. Then again, women are worth jack shit in that country, so I would have killed the guy and ran to another country. Good post, Jenos.
