My friend and I want to hold some sort of fundraiser at our school, or in our community, but we are having a hard time finding a good idea for the fundraiser that will be the most effective. Do you have any ideas? What had worked for you/at your schools/in your communities in the past? Please help us, we really want to hold this fundraiser as soon as possible!

Well one day i was at a gas station and saw likepoor people pumping gas and people would give them money. So i figured if some people would make signs and ask tha managers at a gas station if they can pump peoples gas for Hurrican Katrina then that would help also. So out here in los angeles california im gonna start finding volunteers to help with my idea. so if you guys in other states would like to do it than alrite with me. this could probably turn into a world wide thing! So my e-mail is CaCCkroqrchic05@aol.com plz e-mail me and tell me what you think about this idea.

I am going to buy mardi gras beads (to represent New Orleans) in bulk (they are really cheap). Then, I'm going to sell them at school for a dollar a piece. Then, I'll send the profits to NO. I think my idea is better than a straight donation.

What I'm saying is it seems like it was over in just a short week or two, maybe to Americans. And I believe it's because American, and the damages are directly our financial responsibilty, people are more upset-but it seems to me they care more about gas prices and repair costs than the death toll. Do you see now what I am getting at?
They way I see it is that people simply cared more about the tsunami victims than their own fellow americans. Celebrities galore were donating millions instantly. I believe it was Sandra Bullock who started it off by donating like a millions dollars the day following the tsunami. Where are all those people now? It's taken nearly a week just for the military to take action. Just seems to me like no one cares and I think I know why but I'd rather not get into it....

How can thy help? Really. Tell me something they can do to help. Officials don't let them out of the superbowl area. So again, tell me something they can do to help.

I'm not sure where you get your news freedom, but the tsunami death toll was televised consistantly, with hourly updates on some stations. America stepped up and donated millions of dollars for tsunmai relief. It's now time for us to help our own country in a time of need. Don't be so pathetic. Apparantly you don't comprehend what a true catastrophe is. I attend a local community college and are planning a fundraiser. I'm a member of the Student Senate at the college and we are going to try to organize something. So far,the best idea we've got from others is to set a goal and play one annoying song over (Like mmmBop from Hanson) and over again (Loudly!) in the cafeteria until we make that goal. Then we'll change to another annoying song until we reach another goal and continue on until we reach our full goal. We've got some pretty good feedback and students think it will work. Hopefully it will!

Hey activistista, I've been hearing that drives are out of the question for most people b/c shipping costs just render them moot; the shipping money spent would be better sent to relief efforts. My sister is collecting money in a simple can she decorated, like DrStrangelove suggested, and we're making bracelets to sell with yarn and beads we have around the house. We're also trying to get the local high school to have one of those old-fashioned school carnivals, and maybe have a local restaurant sponsor a fundraiser. Don't know if you have one or not around you, but in our county Pizza Inn and Fazolis are known to help with split-profit nights in exchange for help and publicity. Does that help? The main thing is to keep your costs low or free (have businesses donate things you need) and raise as much as you can. There are also tons organizations out there that would probably love your help if you google them. Crusader

I saw on the news these people just standing around chanting for help. That's kind of pathetic I think. These people could be helping the situation, rather than being so "laissez-faires" and just chanting. Come on. What I think is especially concerning is that no one cared so much about the death toll after the tsunami, but people are getting all concerned because this is America, this isn't supposed to happen (as the thought goes), and we are an economical superpower. So we lost a few billion (okay, more like $100 billion) but if all you humanitarians compared the tsunami's losses to ours, I don't understand why you are all upset over our disaster, which is around a 1/250 fraction of the damage to life. sheesh. That aside, I do believe we do need to raise more finances and services to help out.

Right now, the mayor says the best thing to do is to simply send letters into the white house asking them to just do something already.

You could have a dance and the entry fee goes to the Red Cross or YN Hurricane Relief stuff.

Right now it seems like the best thing to do would be to rally a militia to go assist the National Guard down there. Sheesh. At this point simply going around with a can asking for money should work. It's clearly a huge problem and people will likely give a few bucks right off the bat.
