http://www.cnn.com/2006/LAW/07/03/iraq.charge/index.htmlI do not support the death penalty. I am curious, though, do advocates of the death penalty believe that this soldier should be executed? Why? Why not? If there is ever a time to use the death penalty, to me, this is the time.

i support the death penalty if the crime is heinous enough to warrant it, AND if there is absolutely ZERO chance of error. in the constitution, there is an extremely high standard applied to prove treason. only with that level of doubtlessness should the death penalty be allowed. killing the wrong man or woman for a heinous crime is no better than the crime itself.
as for this soldier, if he really did do those things, HANG HIM! what a sick, depraved, disgusting piece of...

If I were in his squad I would have slotted him myself, because revenge will be taken out on innocent American soldiers because of that incident. Make an example of the guy and let the muslims and Iraqis know about it, save the army over there a load of trouble in that way. Bad things like this happen in war though, its almost as though we shouldant be surprised.

In combat if there is justifcation then it's okay, so if the man of the house suddenly whipped out an AK and the soldier unloaded on them it would be okay(sorta), it would be over kill and the man should definelty not be in infantry and owuld probally get a few in the brig for accidental murder of civilians but it would not be a death penalty offense. Now in this case the man raped and murdered in cold blood four human beings. So regardless of his military status, OFF WITH HIS HEAD!(to qoute the the english) As far as justice is concerned with a case like this there is no excuses and wrings must be made right

I think they could have come up with a lame justification for his actions if he simply killed the family. However, when you throw rape into the picture...it makes it difficult to come up with a good excuse. I personally do not support the death penalty in any situation (in the developed world), so I think we should lock him up and let him rot his life away...there are some situations where death is too good for somebody...

I am confused about the death penalty. I guess. I don't really know. I think it's wrong, but maybe some people deserve to be wronged? I'm just confused. It doesn't seem right to me, but maybe that's okay. See. I'm just really confused about what I think. Sorry. I'm rambling. I know that if some foriegner killed and raped 4 americans in cold blood, the American people would be up in arms demanding that he be executed. But I'm curious. Is there a double standard? Are we going to make some lame excuse for this guy? That's what I want to know.

I agree with the death penalty and I just wish we would carry it out quickly. I do believe he deserves death and not sitting in a prison for twenty years. Also if you believe that this would be a time to use it then you sort of agree with the death penalty.
