A disturbing video making its way to millions of people online and in the news shows a soldier tossing what appears to be a yelping puppy end-over-end off a cliff in Iraq.

While the Marine Corps Base Hawaii (MCBH) has launched a full investigation into this apparent act of extreme animal abuse, the act is of a ery serious nature serious nature and the punishment needs to appropriate. The MCBH should require that the suspects appear before a court-martial and should seek the most severe penalties under the Uniform Code of Military Justice, including discharge from the Corps, for the suspects if they are convicted. The U.S. Marine Corps should also establish a zero-tolerance policy for cruelty to animals, which would help ensure that this is the last time that the U.S. will suspect any of its brave men and women of abusing a defenseless animal during their service to America.

Ive heard people actually use the excuse that soldiers have a right to do these kind of things, since they have such bad days in Iraq. I agree that war is absolutely awful, but killing a puppy just to pass the boredom is something that nothing on this earth can excuse. Nothing.

War has a simple meaning. It is our desperate attempt to cling to the one thing that gives us life...through the raining down of death.

There is a proven link between animal cruelty at a young age and violent psychopathic behavior later. This is not the kind of Marine I want serving my country.

Good point clpo, but let's just assume for the purposes of this discussion that they are real Marines.

True, notsojoey. I do agree. What I meant is I'd rather have them far away from me and my pets. To me, one of the most important things, even more so than them beating an animal, is ensuring that they aren't doing that to people. Once, I was watching Animal Cops on TV, and there was a young boy who shot some cat, cut off it's ears and burned it. It turned out that that boy was being abused, and he had mental problems.

Has anyone stopped to think this might not be a video of a real Marine? I don't doubt that the video depicts real animal cruelty, but until the video's authenticity is verified, I'm not jumping to any conclusions. I made the mistake of believing those pictures of camel spiders were real, so I'm not going to assume anything here.

Horsearthistgrl, I disagree. I do not think that Marine should be serving. There is something unsettling about having someone on the front lines who enjoy killing defensless animals.

That's disgusting.Well, I'm actually glad that they are in the army, not roaming the streets around here.

I'm sure the Marine Corps is already investigating it.

This is horrifying. I would support a court marshal and dishonorable discharge for all members involved. Sickening.
