I'm sure you have all heard about the death of Pope John Paul II. What are your feelings about his death and about what is now going to happen in Rome- i.e the election of a new pope.

awww, SanAntonioGuy- you gave me the warm fuzzies! however, let's end the let's-pick-on-yogore streak. i'm a stickler for grammars, and all, but im willing to ignoar that- even the best make misteaks sometimes.

oh, and about the matchbox 20 thing- i guess i just have this thing for weird analogies!- good point, yogore, i can't exactly go around mourning the death of every single person in the world. what i was trying to say was, i'm sure their lead singer is a perfectly nice guy, and even though it was in God's plan and all for him to die, i would feel sad for the void he left in the lives of his family and friends.

okay, better example: obviously, as a Catholic, i don't really know of or emulate any great rabbis; however, if a great Jewish leader were to die, whom many people DID look up to as a great example of living out the Jewish faith and for doing great things for humanity, i would feel sad that the Jewish community had lost someone that they so obviously looked up to (and would try to sypathize with the pain i am sure they would be feeling), and i would also be sad that the world had lost one of its crusaders for rightousness and justice.

wow, that was a horrible run-on sentence! does that illustrate my point any better, tho? basically, i just wanted to get across that i thought what lekuche said was horribly wrong. it makes me angry, the total lack of respect for ALL human life. regardless of how sick he was, the Pope was still an activist, for the church and for the world, and even if he was just some sick old guy, nothing special about him, what are you going to do, just go around to nursing homes and start shooting all the sick old people? it frightens me when people say things like that, it really does, because what if some day people start thinking that because i have alzheimer's and can't talk to my grandchildren anymore, that no one's going to care when i die??? that i no longer have any value? that's a sickening thought. so please, give the Pope some respect. he was so much more than some old guy, and deserves to be honored as such.

saying that the pope is not inspiring is very unfair. he has done so many things for the people. that is the reason why millions of people mourned for his death. he has done so many things that even other religions prayed for him.

I think John Paul II did some great things for the catholic church. He made the religion much more tolerant of other religions. His policies may not have all been in agreement with my beliefs but he was revolutionary.

I agree, however, I wasn't the one saying that age was what mattered. You should be giving your Holier-Than-Though speech to someone else.

From what I've seen of your posts, yogore is much more articulate and convincing.
Of course you think that. You share the same views.
Yogore is a good at debating, I won't deny that.

I'm sorry. I truly am. But you gotta admit, it was just a LITTLE bit funny that you were trying to tell her about your knowledge level and you had a typo. A little.

Sorry for getting off track.

Yea, he did. I really think he was a great guy.

Getting back to the topic at hand, I also believe that the Pope was a good man. He helped many people, as well as hindered, but in the end he stuck to his beliefs and to those of the catholic religion. In the end that is what is really important, and is probably the same characteristics the Cardinals are searching for in a new Pope. Although some of us may believe, including myself, that some of the Catholic beliefs are scewed, opinion only, the Pope served his purpose. He led the Catholiocs of the world into a new millenium, and he upheld the traditional Catholic beliefs.

everyday i pray that the New Pontiff will be the living saint that Pope John Paul II was. All we need do is pray for him and for the Cardinals who are making the selection under the guidance of the Holy Spirit.

So, from what I've heard, there are a few "frontrunners." Do you have a favorite?

pirategroupie, your right...

you are the only one sticking to the topic so I will answer your previous question. Sorry for not answering earlier

"So, for all the Catholics out there (I'm not one, I'm just curious), what are you all looking for in a new pope (Pope)?"

Well to be honest I personaly am hoping for someone to carry many of the same characteristics of John Paul II. It wont be easy following such a great leader, but God knows what He is doing and I'm sure Divine Providence will allow us another great leader once more.

John Paul II...Pray for us, we need it!!

I love it how you are trying to educate us on how debating works when you're new (to posting atleast) and we've all been here a while.

Well you told me to not talk until I was a senior. It was a statement of fact, most sophomores are 16 at this point.

This is a thread about Pope John Paul II, not whining about people typing everything that pops into our heads.

How can you make a real debate when you refuse to acknowledge others's points as true?

No, it's the harsh reality a lot of Christians can't take. No religious text has been proven. None.

Educating myself? I skipped a grade in high school, was an exchange student in Russia, and I'm taking both classes in the university and high school, with honors.

Yeah, I tried to bring up a relevant topic, but everyone was too busy arguing to respond.

First of all, this discussion is about Pope John Paul II, not grammar non-sense.

Second, I was not the one who pointed out your spelling mistakes, someone else did. I was laughing at your goofy comment on how your going to be a junior next year like as if that is supposed to change everything. It had nothing to do with your error. So Mr Perfect learn how to read before you come at me and if you want me to go down the line and read all your previous posts with the dictionary next to me I can but I have much better things to do with my time.

Thanks Celtic.

Actually, societies's ways are to follow morals and Christianity.

Before you criticize our age and maturity, spell and grammer check your writing.
