Since the landfall of Hurricane Katrina, gas prices have soared to historic highs. Some say we may never see gas under $3 a gallon. Even some states are trying to help out by reducing or getting rid of their tax on gas (I live in NY which has one of the highest taxes on gas in the nation). I was on vacation during the Hurricane and I went through Maryland, Delaware, Virgina, Washington, D.C, New Jersey, and now back in NY. New Jersey, which has a very low gas tax was $3.129 a gallon on the garden state parkway, usually a cheaper gas area. Will we ever see gas under $3 again? Are we in an energy/fuel crisis? Will tapping the reserves help gas prices? Probably not. And if it does, it will artificially decrease the price and wont help the economy much at all. So answer this: How much is a regualr gallon of gas cost in your area?

About 2.70. (Here in Seattle, we get Alaskan oil, so Katrina didn't effect our gas prices)

I went home on break and it's still hovering around 2.749 per gallon. Here? I have no clue. I hardly walk an eighth of a mile off campus, and there aren't any gas stations on my way anywhere.

Wow! Where do you all live?

I payed $2.669 on MOnday afternoon. I am also a "Speedy Rewads" member so I get a discount. Smile Shouldn't "The Motor City" have the most expensive gasoline?

Jeez, chill. I was making fun of good ol' kbynugz down there who was being a serious homophobe in another thread. I'm not a heterosexist.

My prediction has proven false. There was a 50-50 chance of that happening. Although, let it be known that I made that prediction when Rita was a Category Five storm on a direct heading for the Texas Gulf Coast. How could I have possibly foreseen it dropping to a Category Three and hitting the TX-LA border?

CLPO, now that Rita has past, are you willing to recall your prediction?

According to a variety of my sources...20% of gasoline in the US is processed in Texas, so we should be VERY thankful that Huricane Rita hit minimally in Texas. Gas prices went up 20 cents ($2.48 to $2.68) in my area, but that is typical for the weekends regardless...
