Don't flatter yourself. A drop in American oil production wouldn't hurt the rest of the world at all. We're not the major exporters of oil.

20 cent rise is for a litre, multiply that by 3.7 and you get a 74cent rise in a month...for no reason.
If you consider a hurriacne knocking out the entire gulf oil producers 'no reason'.

I'm not complaining about gas prices. I don't mind them. But if it hits 6.00 a gallon, I'll buy a Smaller Land Rover. Well, if gas in England is $1.62 a liter and a liter is 3.7 gallons, then gas there is almost six American dollars to a gallon. Right?

And wait, you're complaining? About 20 "cents" (in US) rise for the equivalent of almost 4 gallons? Hey, my math needs honing, I know, but that's about 5 cents raise. We'd be lucky if we had that much of an increase in the states.

1 British pound = 1.8452 U.S. dollar so one pence is around 2 pennys, petrol is 90p a litre which is 1.62 dollars. one litre is 3.7 gallons.

quote: But are your salaries proportionate to the high gas prices?
If gas remains this high or gets higher, I know many people in my area will only have money for bills, food, and gas. Salaries aren't increasing, workers are still being laid off, yet prices keep increasing. This is more of the problem instead of simply high gas prices.
to some extent salaries are more proportional, but ask anybody here and they will tell you of the injustice the british public has to pay for petrol, the prices keep rising and rising...we even had a petrol strike a few years ago...it will happen again. last month petrol was 80p a litre, now it is 90p, 10 pence rise in one month...incredible.

3.7 liters to a gallon! hmm, I was off by 0.1 liters.
Gas prices here in Germany range from €1.15 for trucks to €1.30-1.40 for regular, the highest prices are around €1.50. So we're looking at, $3.05 for trucks per gallon; $4.00 for regular; and $4.44 for premium/super whatever you wanna call it. Though I know it's worse in the states when you consider most people take at least 30 min. to get anywhere. i drive two minutes and I'm in the next town.
And I honestly hate hearing about how 16 year olds get cars from their parents. If you don't work here (or have parents with really well paying jobs), no car. it's always via bus or train.

$2.89 is about the norm. Although it can get as high as $3.00 or as low as $2.53. And all that in a thirty mile radius.

quote: That gets on my nerves too, freedom. And then there were also kids in some of my classes complaining about gas prices...and their mommys and daddys pay for it!!! I know what you mean! One girl doesn't have a job, cruises around for fun and her parents pay for her premium gas. Then she started complaining when they said she was going to have to get a job or sell her brand new luxury... She was almost in tears. I had to not only buy my piece of ****, but maintain it, and keep it full (of gas as well as air in the tires). **** and moan all you want, children. I have no pity for you today. quote: Cost me 60$ to fill up my SUV, but I don't really mind so long as the price is market accurate.

Sure, some of us seem to be using our gas frivolously, but most of us have a necessity in gasoline. Britain, for example, and as I understand it, has many more possibilties for economical transportation. Unless you live in the city, in the US, you pretty much need a vehicle. Now hybrid or electric is usually more so up to the consumer.
