America and the rest of the world are very different. Americans are not used to high gas prices, while in the other parts of the world they are used to it. And the dollar is also very weak.

jeese you guys are complaining at some of these prices, theyre so low! petrol here is always over 6 dollars a gallon...no matter what is going on around the world, i would say in 10 years it will hit one pound a litre.

2.99

Cost me 60$ to fill up my SUV, but I don't really mind so long as the price is market accurate.

3.89

I don't drive so I help my mom by trying to find the lowest price. However, do you think it's worth it to drive far just to get gas that is a couple of cents cheaper? If you add it up, it doesn't come out to a couple of cents. You know what I mean, let's just say you see a gas-station that has gas for 3.50 rather than 3.89, but it's really far from your house, would you drive all the way over there to get the cheaper gas?

That gets on my nerves too, freedom. And then there were also kids in some of my classes complaining about gas prices...and their mommys and daddys pay for it!!!

First of all, I only drive from place to place - not just for the fun of it. I try not to drive if I don't have to but I'm not going to let gas prices keep me from going to places I want to go and doing things I want to do. However, I have a little Mitsubishi that gets pretty decent gas milage - even at $2.59, my car would still be almost full with only $20 worth of gas and that tank would last me two weeks or more.

However, when this tank I have right now runs out, if prices are still $3 or more, I'm riding my bike to school.

First, people seem to be confusing the price reflecting how much companies want to make off their gas. Not so. What they're doing is realizing they have very scarce amounts of it. In order to decrease demand, there's really only one logical thing to do: raise the price.

Secondly, don't concern yourselves with the cost. For many people in the US, it would be much more economical to buy a bike, even a motorbike or moped if they wanted to; and they wouldn't have to worry. What Americans want is diminishing, we as the United States need to wake the hell up and start looking into alternative methods. Why has it taken this long in the first place? Don't complain about gas prices and then drive your SUV out in the countryside for fun. Just be economical.

Lastly, I am currently in Massachusetts for college. (*yay!*) The prices are much different here. One station had regular for $2.99, and the highest I've heard about not too far from here was $3.47.
My mom called a little while ago and says the lowest price there was $2.65 at Sam's club. And the highest was $3.09 a gallon.

North Carolina...

Friday: On my way to school, the highest I saw was $3.29 and the lowest I saw was $3.09. On my way home from the football game that night, all I saw was $2.99

Saturday: I saw one at $3.39 and then one at $2.99

in the UK petrol costs over 90pence a litre, 90p must be around 1.70 dollars. there is 3.7 litres to a gallon....so a gallon of petrol in my area is 92pence...giving a total of, in US dollars: 6.29. The cheapest it ever goes is 70p per litre, but it is usually around 80-85. We pay way too much for petrol here no matter the circumstances.

Where I live gas costs about $2.70. The cheapest I've seen here was $2.59. I live in Oregon, by the way.

I have no idea. I assumed because someone reported it that they had gotten gas there. I don't know how much their gas was BEFORE the hurricane. It's entirely possible it was WAY lower than everyone else's, and that's their high price.

But, what you said could be true, I don't know.

The least expensive was Mississippi at $2.44

I am very surprised at this price. Could it be that this station is not open due to the hurricane?

If you want to see the gas prices where you live, go to http://www.gaspricewatch.com.
You put in your zip code, and get gas prices up to 8 hours ago, and you can find the cheapest gas near you.

According to them, the most recent person to post with the highest gas price was Maine at 5 bucks and change. The least expensive was Mississippi at $2.44

Here's it's 3 bucks and change. I haven't seen it over 4 yet. I'm just glad I can walk to school now.

Some of the reason gas prices are so damn high, is because people are flipping out and getting gas when they don't really need it, in fear of it going up. When that exact thing is what is making gas prices soar.

Hell, get a bike. Grab some mass transportation. Chances are a bus pass will cost less than a week's or month's worth of gas.

Here in Atlanta about 2 days ago there was a rumor that spread about gas actually running out. Next thing you know gas is shooting up to anything between 4-7 dollars a gallon. Ridiculous I know, then everyone is waiting in lines for like 2 hours just 2 get gas. Later that day the mayor comes on television claiming that any gas stations selling gas that high is "price gouging" and he gave us some number to call in them. The power of a rumor.

IN my area (silicon valley california) gas prices range from $3 to $3.2 or so. I guess all we can do ios try not to drive so much.
