I don't know how many of you keep up with animal rights issues but it has been in newspapers and what not recently. KFC and McDonalds being the two named corporations. I know people don't really think of chickens as things to be thought very highly of but if you see some of the things these people do to the chickens. Some rip off there beaks while they are still alive. Some spray paint their faces and beats them with metal bars and stuff. I don't see what the point is. Forgive me if I get long-winded but this is a subject I feel very strongly on. And many beef producers are just as bad. Slitting an animal's throat while it is still alive. I try in every way not to support the meat eating industry. I am very interested to find out what everyone here thinks about this. Thanks for your input in advance.

Isn't almost everything slightly slanted? TV, books, the internet? I mean, if you were to go to KFC's site that would be slanted too (even more so actually, since they've resorted to mud-slinging as a defense).
And the videos cannot be disproved, no matter how "slanted" the organization providing them is.

I haven't heard much of the issue..and i'm..curious

For one thing they've claimed that deep-fried chickens parts are healthy in two ads. But besides that...

http://www.kentuckyfriedcruelty.com/why.asp

PETA has had campaigns to get McDonald's, Burger King and Wendy's to improve their animal welfare standards for the better and they have all done that. (since McDonald's was the first one to do this, the other two companies were easier to convince) Check out these websites for more info on these campaigns: www.mccruelty.com www.murderking.com www.wickedwendys.com PETA is trying to get people to boycott KFC until they improve their animal welfare standards for their chickens. As one of the videos on their site shows, in one slaughterhouse that supplies KFC, workers were throwing, kicking, squeezing and stomping on live chickens. If KFC were on top of all the suppliers activities, then why would something like that happen?

If you need more info, let me know.

I once got a burger on my chicken sandwich at McDonalds once. I thought that sort of related.

Of course, at PoserBurger, we have the highest standards of kindness to animals that we later eat. Mmm. Jimmy Eat Chicken Sandwich.

Of course everyone won't stop eating meat that is unrealistic but if we can turn one person vegetarian today, and two tomorrow, and 10 next week. Eventually that is a lot of people and that is a lot of animals we helped save from the slaughter house. Supply and demand. If there is less of a demand from consumers, manufacturers will make less supply which means less death and torture.

Ciao

Check out www.petatv.com for tons of videos about all different kinds of animal cruelty. They have videos of the cats and dogs raised and killed for food in Korea and other countries as well as videos of the conditions that factory farmed animals live in. (and videos of fur production and circus animal abuse) Not for the light of heart.
www.factoryfarming.com has videos of factory farming as well and pictures and info.

As long as we're recommending books here, I'll recommend a couple. I have read Fast Food Nation by Eric Schlosser BTW.
Animal Liberation by Peter Singer This book is the foundation of the modern animal rights movement. It has info on factory farming and vivisection (using animals in medical experiments) and on the philosophy of animal rights.
Slaughterhouse by Gail Eisnitz I just got this book and I haven't read it completely but it seems to go into detail about slaughterhouses, the treatment of animals there and the treatment of people there. There are a few graphic pictures and an illustration of how a hog is slaughtered just so you know.

I'll leave you (for now) with this:

One struggle, one fight-human freedom, animal rights.

Also the Free Me video on the website is slightly different than the one they send you in the mail if you write them requesting a copy of it. I know making the world a vegetarian place is a utopian if idealistic image but the least we could do is not torture the animals you know? I dunno it's kind of impossible to stop the killing although I invite you to look at my post in the Amazing Facts section under some facts. It lists some of the detrimental effects to the environment caused my meat eating. Ciao

Yeah. It's really bad how they treat cats killed for meat too.

I feel like throwing up.

This is horrible. I had read about the dogs before. They torture them before killing them because the adrenaline realeased gives the meat a sweeter flavour. What's wrong with people? I just don't understand why someone would hurt an animal just because they can.

I also suggest reading Fast Food Nation. I did a speech on it in school and I'm happy to say there's less people eating at McDonald's and similar places. It's definitely true, people need to be informed, that would change a lot.

I remember Meet Your Meat. It came as a part of the same disk with the Free Me video in the mail. It's really a shame the way they do those animals. ::shrug shrug::
