Do you think that with the current economy that it is harder for teenagers to find jobs. Are different groups/types people taking the jobs that are normally taken by teenagers.

That's nice. Now where do you live? And are teens really allowed to perform these jobs? Most Help Wanted signs in my area are really saying "Help Wanted if you're over 18 and want to work 5 hours a week".

Personally, I applied to seven different companies as a high school graduate and most places turned me down - I have one 15 hours/week job - because of my age (I'm seventeen). One guy simply looked at me when I asked for an application and said "Job has been filled" when I know damn-well it wasn't filled. You wanna know how I know? Because when I called back there the next weekend, after seeing the same classified ad in the paper, he said he needed two people. How's that for ageism? It isn't always because kids are lazy.

Another example: the valedictorian of my high school class, a close friend of mine, applied to six different jobs. He got one. He now has to travel about 50 miles a day to work as a full time dishwasher for eight bucks an hour. And the institute he works at wouldn't let him live on the campus, so that's why he drives.

Anyone still thinking most teenagers are just being lazy? Please, tell me. My next story involves a college student applying to over 20 different jobs only to get two, one at the movie store and another at Taco Bell. (And for anyone who doesn't know, they both won't pay over 8 an hour for her skills.)

Ummm, teenagers shouldn't have to work. But if they want to fine, find a job. It is not hard. There are TONS of help wanted signs where I live.

I don't think that teenagers are losing out on job opportunities. Personally, I think many people are to lazy and spoiled to go out and get a job, because they don't see a need to. I see it all the time. Kids at my school have brand new cars handed to them, and don't have to pay anything. This causes them to become spoiled, which in turn, makes them lazy. They won't look for a job becuase they feel that everything will be handed to them. I am confident that there are plenty of work opportunities out there for us teenagers.

Stop posting duplicate threads! There are plenty of threads like this. You are creepy and sound like a "think" tank yuck rather than someone trying to have a discussion.
