If you havent already seen the video (some might be disturbed), heres the link, http://youtube.com/watch?v=lARW9r5V29s

im stunned. no pun. police brutality. u can hear him screaming that he was going to leave while their attacking him.

what i dont understand is, they keep telling him to get up, but they keep tasering him.

i looked up the effect of being tasered.

quote:
Electroshock weapon technology uses a temporary high-voltage low-current electrical discharge to override the body's superficial muscle-triggering mechanisms. The recipient is immobilized via two metal probes (darts) connected via metal wires from the electroshock gun usually penetrating the human skin, and superficial muscle. The recipient that is 'connected' to an electroshock gun feels great pain and can be momentarily paralyzed (only so long as there is an electrical current being applied) because his muscles are receiving electrical 'shock'. The (relatively) low electric current must be pushed by (relatively) high voltage to overcome the electrical resistance of the human body. The resultant 'shock' is caused by muscles twitching uncontrollably, appearing as muscle spasms. However, because the amount of current is relatively low, there is considered to be a 'margin' of safety by a number of medical experts. Experts generally agree that this margin is highly dependent on the overall health of the person subjected to the shock.

i'd imagine its pretty hard just to be able to get up after a few tasers. i've had muscle spasms, its VERY hard to control your body during and after an episode. u'd think they'd teach officers this, right?

I heard about this a little while ago. I didn't know he was Iranian, though. That might explain why the police were alerted in the first place...

What stuns me are some of those idiotic replies on youtube. Gah, do they let everyone on the internet now?
The sound quality at the beginnning of the clip isn't really clear enough but it seemed as though they were tasing him as he was on his way to leave, which is completely rediculous. The whole thing felt rather needless to me, as though a few of teh guards were having a bad night and taking it out on an irritated guy. He certainly didn't seem like any sort of threat, and yeah, they definitely tased him too many times for them to have expected him to just leave. They knew what they were doing, they were probably just trying to look justified in front of the crowd.

If he was the only guy that they asked for ID, then it was probably racial profiling. No matter what happened, those guards definitely let things get out of hand; they certainly weren't working for the safety of the students and they sure stirred up an angry mob.

EDIT: Yaaa, I just realized that this took place in November. Not to say it shouldn't be discussed, I'm just realising that's sort of not current. Carry on discussing though
EDIT 2: Right! New news from Wikipedia:
On January 17, 2007, Tabatabainejad filed a federal lawsuit alleging the campus officers used excessive force, and that they violated the Americans With Disabilities Act. He is seeking unspecified damages. His attorney, Paul Hoffman, expects the case to be heard next fall.
