It depends on where you live at... In Cali, you don't see that many SUV's like it was before the gas went up. But in certain circumstances... they can be good... I keep on watching the Toyota Tundra comercial... and it makes me want to go out and buy one. How much damage it can take and what not... is awesome.

SUV's are the best vehicles ever invented. They look beautiful, (only the big ones like expedition, navigator, range rover, escelade, tahoe, yukon etc etc) and they offer the most comfortable ride ever. I just got my first car, a beaaaaauteeful 2000 chevy tahoe. I know the gas will cost me a lot, but i really dont care. plus now we have a vehicle that is capable of pulling a horse trailer which we have been in the market for my sister, so she can event her horse.

I believe that it's fine as long as they're on the market. That's why the government taxes larger, more fuel consuming vehicles, am I right? And General Motors (and all its little subordinates) haven't been looking into hybrids seriously, so it's going to take a toll on them when Toyota (although already established) and Ford are the ones with the reputable hybrids. Personally, I don't see the use for SUVs. It works for some families, sure. But most people that have them do not have an actual reason. They're also killing machines. I've read a few articles on the physics of them and they were made like shorter, taller trucks, which puts them at serious risk for flipping, as well as killing people in smaller vehicles. Just so everyone knows, I actually drive a van for fear of accidents. Yes, an SUV might be a better choice, but I wouldn't be able to afford it and it's not like SUVs are a safe haven from accidents anyways, as I said above.

Bad. The president should recall all SUVs on earth. Then fire them into the sun.

Galbraith talked about us overconsuming as a capitolistic tendency. He beleived that just because we could consume something didn't neccesarily mean we should. It was not his thesis but it was this observation in capitolistic sociology that supported his conclusions. My teacher had to spend $33 on gas one day. ONE day.. I know it lasts, but still. That's what I get for two months of dogwalking. Pretty scary.

By the way, FML, if you were trying to seem smarter than us by putting a stupid book's title as a choice, than you really ought to simmer down. The book wasn't even about the problems, necessarily, it was about the difference of public inefficiences versus the private sector's wealth and making more advantages through government authority and its ability to do so. Anyway, I disagree with the Sports Utility Vehicle movement in our culture. The things we used to used these types of vehicles for hardly even occur in the US. Besides, between the fuel, physics-size and engineering (all areas that still need much improvement), it is idiotic that they're still around in my opinion. It's just another flash of "I've got mula!". But you can do that with a Porsche or a Jaguar...

Oh how I long for the days of cheap gas and 420 big blocks! Where have you gone, o mighty Hemicuda? Now we have slipped into a dark era overshadowed by metric engine displacements and three-cylinder Geos! Wretched $2.50 a gallon gas! There. That is my poem for the day. By the way, I do indeed own a Geo Metro. And I constantly surprise people that I pay a mere $40 on gas. Per month. Stuff that in your pipe and smoke it.

How many people actually take their Escapes, Excursions/Suburbans/Hummers off the road. An insanely small amount, because most can't do a lot of off roading anymore. They are made for the gently rolling, freshly paved hills of suburbia. By the way, was this poll taken off of Fox News or what? 'little cute furrie bunnies and pretty flowers'. You are essentially to reduce all concerns about environmental degradation into trivial things such as harm to bunnies and flowers. While we are at it, why not make a car with a 5 liter V8 engine for every wheel. This way, we have a overall engine power of a 20 liter V32. And if we can afford the gas for that, it must be right. -------- FreeCulture.org an international student movement for Free Speech, Free Software, and Free Culture

The only reason to own a SUV is if you go offroad with it. Wagons can fit just as much inside, + there are plenty of wagons that have AWD and they actually do better in snow/ice conditions than SUVs due to the low center of gravity.
