For those of you who haven't heard about this here is a quick background on the situation. Terri Schiavo had a heart attack 15 years ago and has been brian dead ever since. Her family has been fighting about whether to keep her alive or not. Congress is trying to find a way to reinsert her feeding tube that was recently pulled on Friday and keep her alive. Should Terri Schiavo have her feeding tube reinserted or not and most importantly of all Does Congress have the right to intervene?

Have you ever heard of an appeal? The Schindlers did appeal to try to reverse the ruling. quote: where they have severe conflicts of interest.
How many times did they appeal? Not all of the judges had a conflict of interest. quote: But its nice to know that that's the only thing I said that you all took issue with.
Ha, if only that was true. I neglected to repsond to the rest of your post because I have already argued this issue. I guess I will respond now. quote: Take some time to look up the video of teri when she's in her room with her parents and the lawer.
I'm guessing that the video was released by her parents. quote: her brain isn't there anymore?

well yes obviously that's what they are there for but the way the government was set up they only can have a limmited jurisdiction and have other checks and balances to hold them accountable. What's happening is that they are making rulings in places where they have no jurisdiction, or in teri's case in places where they have severe conflicts of interest. they are taking more power than they rightfully have. But its nice to know that that's the only thing I said that you all took issue with.

The judges are supposed to rule on issues. They are supposed to interpret the constitution. If judges do not rule as they fit, then there is no point in having judges at all.

here is some food for thought punkz. Take some time to look up the video of teri when she's in her room with her parents and the lawer. the lawer says "teri, if you could just say 'I want to live' this whole argument would be over" then teri made the sounds of "aahhhhy, wwaaaa" and unable to finnish started crying... her brain isn't there anymore? Baber also mentioned something very important issue. That is the activist judges. They concistently overstep their bounds and make ruling in arenas where they have no jurisdiction. In Teri's case at least 2 of the judges that made rulings had severe conflicts of interest with the case. They had family members who worked there or were on the board of the hospice. That outrages me that the power of the executive and legislative branches to hold the coury systems accountable has been liberally refused

Addressing your last question does congress have the right to intervene, considering that it is the highest elected governing body that we have in this country, i think that they should be able to rule on this not some dim witted judge. My question is why does a lower court judge or even any judge who is appointed not elected have power over the elected body of representatives of this country that we call Congress. Also you shouldn't just take the media for what they say, she was not in fact brain dead. If you want to prove this as false i'd like to hear what you have to say.

i really wish that people could just butt out. this is a painful topic for her parents. i just saw them on the news & it was really sad. this is a real person & people have no business plastering her face all over the world & using her as for their sick political agendas.

What really peeves me off about this whole thing is how it's all public. Terri Schiavo is a person-not some political issue to debate over. Her parents should never have made this into such a huge deal-a lot of people go through this traumatic experience without news cameras flashing in a young girl's face... It just really upsets me.

I think what has happened to Terri Schiavo is very sad.I personally feel that a person is dead when he/she is brain dead. However, I can understand that her parents don't want to let her go. I know how it is to hold on to hope even when everyone says there is none. Someone very close to me was very ill and even though the doctors said the illness would be fatal I refused to believe it until the moment he passed away. I know someone who had to decide to take a family member off life support and it was a very painful decision to make. I think if Terri Schiavo really did say she didn't want to be kept alive in a vegetative state, that her wishes should be respected.

quote: There really isn't a point to letting her live is there? It's wasting tons more of the husband's money that he needs for livelihood, it's got to be torturing the family, seeing her like that and having almost 0 chance of her returning to normal.
But see worthwaitingfor, this is why people are making such a big deal out of the Terry Schiavo case. You dont know where to draw the line in someones life whether its meaningful to live or not. And whos to draw that line? Youre right - this is wasting a lot if her husband's money - he probably needs that money for his common law wife (of like 7 years) and his two other children... The big deal out of this is that her parents are saying that they will allow Terry's husband out of all of this, and they will take over her medical life. But oh no, since Terry's husband sued some company over Terry, he doesnt get the money until she dies- so he wont allow her parents to take care of her, and he live a normal life. Its as simple as that...

much of her frontal lobe has been replaced by spinal fluid. My sister is in med school, and she said that when they were working with cadavers last week, the subject came up. The areas of her brain most affected were those controlling, feeling, emotion, intellect, and sensory. The areas are just not present in her brain anymore, like she just got them removed.

I haven't seen this before. I really need to visit this forum more so I don't walk in late to discussions like this. I wish there were some written documentation that said either, "I don't mind being a vegetable," or, "Please don't leave me a vegetable," from Schiavo. That would make it easy. As it stands, I would first like to say that I don't think Congress has the right to intervene. This decision should be left up to the family and the doctors. It concerns the family in the first place and it should stay that way. Secondly, I kinda think they should let her die. I mean, she's been in this state for 15 years, keeping her alive on the feeding tube hasn't helped her recover from her brain damage, and there is no happiness as life as a vegetable. Just ask the peas (okay, sorry for that lame joke). There really isn't a point to letting her live is there? It's wasting tons more of the husband's money that he needs for livelihood, it's got to be torturing the family, seeing her like that and having almost 0 chance of her returning to normal. I just don't see the point. It has already been stated that she can't feel starvation in the state she is in and therefore will not even know it when she dies. Instead of prolonging the inevitable---maybe even for years---I think it should just be done with. Again, though, I would always go with what the person wishes over my personal opinion. I wish Schiavo had left that documentation.

You still don't quite get it. I apologize if I seem kind of vague, I'm usually like that. But what I'm saying is that people should only be kept alive, after a severe accident or debilitating sickness, only if there is a significant chance of recovery/survival. For instance, Terri Schiavo is not going to become normal again. A major portion of her thinking and reasoning faculties (the actual brain matter) is simply not there any more. So she will never be the woman she once was, if even anything more than what she is now, a vegetable. In essence, what I'm getting at is that people should only stay alive by natural means. No life support, no feeding tubes. Except, of course, when only temporary. Some people (like the pope, for instance) get sick and have to have a feeding/breathing tube stuck in their throat, but once they get better, it will be removed. Humans were meant to be born, live, and die, not born, live, live, live, live...and so on until we're a race of half-human, half-machine beings that survive by being plugged into electrical sockets overnight. Just forget I ever said the hospital bed remark, and I think everything will become clear.
The more you know, the less you don't know.
