George Bush had nominated Harriet Miers to replace Sandra Day O'Connor on the Supreme Court. Miers has never been a judge and thus does not have a record to determine her judicial philosophy. What are your thoughts on this nominatio? Both Republicans and Democrats are being very careful because no one knows very much about this women.

Whenever I think of Miers, I think of that Dobson dude saying, "She's from an almost exclusively pro-life church..." As if that proves she'll be a worthwhile Supreme Court Justice.

What do you think about Bush admitting that he nominated Miers partially because of her religion? Is that enough to convince the far right that she will try to repeal Roe. v Wade? Will Bush's admission unite the Democrats and the moderate Republicans against Miers?

Man, I really wanna see Miers on the celebrity face interviews on Conan O'Brien...that could be pretty funny.

Lol, ICE. Perhaps we should go the way of Liliputians and have them perform rope trapeeze stunts. In any case, I'm curious to see how this all works out. If nothing else, our government system does not lack for drama.

Imo, no one who has a last name that starts with M should be allowed to serve on the Supreme Court. The new SCJ should also be required to fight one of the others in unarmed hand-to-hand combat be fore being initiated.

I hate the fact that no part of my government can remain objective.

Its conservative vehemence, actually, the Republicrat party is not conservative. The reason there is so much resistance is because the "conservatives" (if they can be called that) control two out of three branches, and now will control the third. The Democratic Party has now lost power in the government for the first time ever (if I'm not mistaken). we need someone on the Supreme Court that will stick to conservative prinicples, not matter what.

Ironically, I think it's the vehemence from the far-right that will ensure she maintains a positive appearance in the public eye. But overall, she seems all right. I couldn't imagine Bush picking anyone much better (not to say there aren't much better choices out there, just that I couldn't see Bush picking them), and he certainly could have picked someone much worse. But of course, all of that is just speculation based on her image; at this point, she's an unknown variable. I'm sure in the coming weeks every single move she's ever made, political or otherwise, will be thrust into the limelight. It's enough to make me almost pity her.

Along with 19 other supreme court justices, including Supreme Court chief justice warren. I don't like her. Scalia should have been promoted to Chief.

I honestly don't think that Miers is not going to get confirmed. Bush really messed up. Basically, he appointed his own crony and both sides see that. Lott came out against Miers quite strongly today. Hardcore conservatives like Brownback don't like Miers. We basically have no idea what this woman believes in. Bush may claim to know what is in this woman's heart but that's ridiculous as far as I'm concerned. Its going to be great when a Republican Senate doesn't confirm a Republican president's nominee.

It makes me wish the Dems hadn't fought Roberts so hard. Miers will NOT be a swing-voter like O'Connor was. All I know is that she was a litigator, close friend of the Bush's, and might've been involved in some scandal while she was chair of the Texas Lottery Commission. And she's unmarried, right? And went to like..Southern Medodist U? I get the feeling she may (relatively) breeze through and then we'll have an unfortunate 5-4.
