This might not be the right place to put this, but I needed to ask, Has anybody heard of Beginnings workshop or Peter Sklar?

hey. i dont know if you'll ever look here again but i thought i'd post anyway. im the other surfercow who posted a tetsimonial earlier. (i had to make another because i didnt know my password lol) what happened was that we were at the workshop and peter asked us to write about our experience, good and bad, and that he would post it on this site for you, nick, to read. so thats why it all sounded so scripted... we were writing to impress i guess... and they were posted all at the same time. but i swear they are all true and genuine. peter's got a lot of rules and may sound like a hard *** but he knows about the business and he'll teach you a lot. so, i dont know what happened that you werent able to go, but i hope it all works out and that you can go next year, because it really is worth it. i promise. so, there ya go. the truth.

Poor wording my apologies, but yes by doing that it's a rules violation.

How would all those new people sign up today within a couple hours of each other and all have testimonies? It is a little suspicious.

Ok ok, I got a legitimate question, what is the male to female ration at this camp, because besides Rick Flynn everyone thats posted is a female... not only that, but I've never met a 14 year old female that can write that well.

Hi there, Nick. This is my third session at a Beginnings Workshop, and I’m enjoying it more than ever. It seems that this year has been the best. The classes seem far more diverse, including topics such as writing, casting and Fosse. All of these are enjoyable, and seem to be something you’d only find in a higher priced University.
I hear people hesitating about coming because they are afraid the food won’t taste good, or that it will be too strict. They’re all wrong; the food is fine, and it isn’t too strict. It’s a great experience that I am glad to be a part of. Beginnings is great, and I will keep going again and again.

Hello Nick. It’s June of 2005, and I’m attending the Beginnings Workshop as a student assistant. I am one of twelve assistants and we have two chaperones. All of the assistants became really close after a few days and out chaperones had a lot of fun with us.
I took a class with Linda Burson called Director’s Perspective. This class helped me learn about what to do and not to do on auditions and what you should have for headshots and what you should have on your resume. I took a writing class with Lee Stringer, which taught me a lot about writing and the writing business. I also took a writing class with Mark Weston, and even though I have taken many classes with him before, I still learned more skills.
We had a few V.I.P. teachers during the workshop and we learned a lot from all of them. We had two dance V.I.P.s, one singing V.I.P., and a casting director. It was a valuable experience and I recommend it to anyone.

Nick, this week has been amazing. I’m currently at the workshop and am having a great time. This is the best acting experience I have ever had. The instructors are all really fun and easy to get along with. They are also all extremely talented and are amazingly good at what they teach. At Beginnings you will learn probably the best acting and dancing skills out there. You will not regret going to Beginnings Workshop! This is my 3rd year back and it is still just as much fun as my 1st time
For the past week I have had a great time learning Fosse (even though I’m not a dancer), Acting: Real and Personal, The Actor Within, Director’s Perspective, and The Author’s Perspective. You will also enjoy the food once you get used to it.

Nick, when you come to the Beginnings workshop, the first thing you think of is tofu. But there’s a lot more to it than that. Admittedly, the food is different, and like a dork, I like it. But the reason it’s so life changing is the vast information made available to you. The classes teach you so much, with the best, most intelligent teachers. The changes I’ve made, as a person and as an actress as I’ve been here are phenomenal. Also, for those scared of the strange, new people-don’t be. The girls and boys picked are the sweetest, funniest, most loving kids I’ve ever met. I’ve kept in touch with so many, and I know they’ll be life-long friends. Beginnings is the best overall experience, leaving you healthy, rested, learned, and with great, new friends.

Hey Nick!
The June 2005 Beginnings Workshop is so much fun! The classes, food and the friends I made are awesome.
Some of the classes I have been taking are Fosse with Christina Pawl who was in the original cast of Cabaret, Acting Real and Personal with Mark Weston who has worked with various stars in the filming business, The Actor Within with Maggie Maes who is one of the best teachers you could have, Director’s Perspective with Linda Burson who has worked in the Broadway business as a director for years. The last class I have is The Author’s Perspective with Lee Stringer who has been through struggles in his life and how he has written down on paper and was turned into a world-wide sensation.
Now I have to tell you the truth about the food. Most of it is good but it has its moments. Tofu is good; we have brown rice, eggs, and tacos. It’s all good. But we do have fish, so if you don’t like it write a letter to Peter saying you area vegetarian. You have to get used to the food the first day, but most of the food is good.
The friends I made this year have been awesome. To be honest with you, I’m closer with my friends at beginnings, then at home. V.I.P.s are another big part of the workshop. People from major Broadway shows come and talks to us in the morning and teaches us a song and dance during the day. Overall, Beginnings Workshop is a fun and safe environment. If you come trust me you’ll have fun.

Hi Nick, this is my second year have at Beginnings Workshop and I’m having a great time. When I first got here I met the other students I would be working with. Everyone here is extremely nice and as soon as you meet someone, you realize that you fit in. The teachers are also friendly, and the classes are great. They have probably taught me more in this week than I’ve learned in a year of acting classes. This week, I have had acting, dancing, singing, and writing classes with professional teachers. Some of these teachers are on Broadway, in movies, or have written well-known books. The students, teachers, and classes are truly amazing.
I have also learned to be a better person. At the workshop, we have to learn to eat healthy. To be honest, the first time I came to Beginnings it was hard to eat the food because of how unhealthy my diet at home was. This week, I am eating the food and loving it. Not only does it taste fairly decent, it makes you feel better. My body feels excellent and is very healthy. Another rule is that girls can’t wear make-up, making people content with who they are. This workshop does not only help physically, it helps mentally.

Nick,
Hello, this is my 4th year at Beginnings Workshop. Each year I attend, the food and overall experience increases in quality. All of the instructors, coaches, and guest speakers actually are working, or have worked in the entertainment field. They aren’t people fresh out of college who just moved to New York. They are experts and know what the life is like. The food served at Beginnings is almost all organic, except for a few special occasions, such as the dance, bonfire, and Off-Broadway Showcase.
A typical day at Beginnings includes eating tasty, healthy meals, learning new things about Tai Chi, comedy, singing, acting, and dancing, socializing with caring chaperones, and other students who come from all over the country, all while having fun. As of now, I am at Beginnings and am experiencing all of those things daily.

Hi Nick,
I am Peyton and I am right now sitting at Beginnings Workshop as I write this. This is my second time at the workshop and I’ve enjoyed it greatly both times. There are lots of great instructors have who are lots of fun. They teach classes in everything from writing to acting to Fosse. Each student gets a schedule of classes for the entire week on the first night. You have six classes a day. Some of those classes are with the special guests who came straight from Broadway. Their classes are awesome.
My biggest fear before I came here was the food. The food is not that bad. It definitely isn’t that bad. It definitely isn’t the best I’ve ever had, but it is healthy and is pretty good. All in all, Beginnings is a very worthwhile week. I’ve always had a great time and learned a lot. Hope to see you here next year.
-Peyton
P.S. The Time Period Dance is a lot of fun, and the alpacas are adorable!
