Become a part of a social change arts movement!
Change the world one postcard at a time.

Hi,

I started a project called Postcards from Katrina TM: Sharing Stories of Hope and Help to engage youth with personal and social matters with the power of creative arts expression. For me, Hurricane Katrina meant to not be complacent but make a difference in the world by making a change with myself.

As a native from Oklahoma with family in the Gulf, I knew Katrina represented the turning point for me to not sit on the sides but get in the game and take action.

The goal of the project is to share stories of hope and help and what Katrina in a metaphorical sense means to people.

Though we didn't live in the civil rights movement, we didn't live through Katrina. We should the good, bad and ugly when crisis struck the most vulnerable region in the U.S.

So I believe that everyone has a story to share whether they were in the eye of the storm or not.

PfK sees art as therapy and therapy as art. In starting this project and after volunteering in the Gulf, I expressed myself through my paintings based on my photos from the Gulf.

You can view the paintings at http://gallery.takingitglobal.org/pfkcreator

You can join the project by registering at

You can help by:

1. telling a friend about the PfK project,
2. subscribing to the official Pfk website at www.postcardsfromkatrina.com,
3. volunteering to start a youth-led PfK project in your community,
4. making and sending a homemade postcard of what Katrina means to you to: Postcards from Katrina, 38 T St NW Washington, DC 20001 or via email.
5. become a part of a youth advisory panel (must be interested in at least 3 of the follwoing: arts, media, social change, technology, public speaking, writing, photography)

The goal is the use the postcards as part of an arts educational outreach programs and a youth arts exhibit and on the website to show a demonstration of hope and help. So become a part of a social change arts movement.

I am creating PfK Youth-Led Toolkit on how youth can engage other youth with the arts and social change in their communities.

PfK needs volunteers to help with their programs:

* Youth Edutaining workshops
* Young Professional Marketing for Change Mixers
* Social Change Arts Scholarship Competition
* PfK Art Gallery
* PfK Toolkits

If you would like to give feedback and become a part of the youth advisory board for this project and other youth-led projects, email me for more information postcardsfromkatrina@gmail.com.

In the email, provide your name, location, organization, contact information, area of interest, and how you would like to help the PfK project.

"Katrina means spreading the message of hope and help among the sea of despair." - Tambra Stevenson, Creator of PfK
