I agree, testing cosmetics on animals is unnecessary, especially considering the ways the testing is often done. Who on earth is going to put blush in their eyes or lipstick in cuts? Okay, I don't know if they really do that, but I've seen some rather graphic pictures of cosmetic testing. Cutting open animals simply to test makeup doesn't make much sense to me.

As for medical testing, I'm with Meagan. Animal testing has saved uncountable lives. The only alternatives are computer simulations (which show more error than animal testing) or human testing, which, I think we can all agree, is pretty unethical unless there is consent from test subjects. I'm not normally one to say the end justify the means, but I think this is an instance that fits that perfectly. Without animal testing, we'd probably still be wondering if outer space is radioactive (since dogs and chimps were the first living things sent into space) and dying from common illnesses because we're not sure if penicillin is safe to use.

I am and always will be against unnecessary cruelty to animals, but I've never been a big supporter of animal rights. If they want rights, they can stand up for them. I'll keep people from kicking dogs and burning kittens, but that's about the limit of my actions. Sorry.

First of all, I do not support animal testing for cosmetic products.

Also, unless you have information that is not present on the American Diabetes Association's website, what you are refering to is a clinical trial. This differs entirely from what occurs during animal testing. Animal testing is what occurs before drugs are released for trial use in humans.

The reason they use animals instead of humans is that you are talking about putting random chemicals into the body and hoping they attain some sort of positive reaction. There is high risk of adverse reactions, and putting that in humans is more risk than it's worth.

Animal testing has helped save all sorts of lives. You can read about some of it here. Some highlights: without animal testing, we wouldn't have penicillin, polio vaccines or organ transplants.

Whatever. If you want to die for science, like I said, go for it.

actually I am a diabetic and youd be surprised at how many people who have diseases like this actually want to be tested on. We've lived with this stuff half our lives and if they have willing people then why continue testing on animals whose body's are not even close to ours? The American Diabetes Association has set up a program where willing people can be tested on instead. If there were more programs like this then the animals wouldnt have to edure everything that they go through.

Like why do you need to test make up on animals? If theres really that big of a risk with it then why make it?
