I believe that saying the pledge is entirely pointless and stupid for numerous reasons and I always refuse to say it, but I still stand out of respect for other people.

At any rate, you are not going to achieve anything through that sort of protest. I don't refuse to pledge because I think it will make a difference, I just don't want to say it. Your party will never be in the majority and thus a few isolated cases of third graders sitting through the pledge will not bring you any attention.

Set your sights lower than a political party and higher than a group that carries out petty protests.

I recommend you first start to seriously educate yourself and anyone else in this group. Education goes beyond reading DK album inserts (though that might get you better info than a major news channel) and listenting to Anti-Flag. Get some decent tomes on civics, history, rebellions, etc, and do some serious reading up. One of the things that has pushed me away from the local radical leftist community is that anarchists today are a hell of a lot less informed than they used to be. Radicals today are resorting to a sort of watered down political dogma with very little merit and, especially at massive gatherings and protests, are betraying a horrifyingly great lack of knowledge.

Especially if you intend to publish a zine or build a decent web page, you need to study until your eyeballs bleed.

Sorry I haven't been able to comment back, I've been at summer camp. To answer several questions, the point of the protest would be to show unhappiness with current gov't policies. I mean, why should we pledge to some thing we don't agree with the actions of? If anyone here can answer that, I would greatly appreciate it.

I wouldn't even criticize that so much as being rude as being without a point. I tend to feel that, if you must protest the pledge, it makes more sense just to stand up and not say it. It's at least respectful to those around you.

If you really want to start a youth group that tries to achieve change, work on something a little more positive. Protests, under most conditions, achieve little more than negative publicity.

And the ostensible purpose of such protests would be?

And on another thread, you said that your political party would have children standing for the pledge...hmm...

Sitting during the pledge is, in all regards, flat out disrespectful. The only thing it says to the world is that you don't "pledge allegiance" to the flag and everything it stands for. If that is how you want your group (probably with a single member) to be seen...go for it. Don't expect a lot of support from this site...

Apparently the pledge...

Look Mark... how do I say this nicely... organizing a sit down for the pledge is really just disrespectful... and comparing that which is childish to the civil rights movement is a very poor analogy indeed.

If you are going to be negative, please don't post on here. I'm not trying to be pretentious, but I have a feeling that YOU get your kicks by making other people feel inferior. Do you not remember the civil rights movement their "childish protests" as you called them, got women and african americans equal rights. Hope you have fun with your ego!!

"Things of that nature"? You mean childish "protests" that accomplish nothing but being overly pretentious and making you look like fool?
