"The ONE Campaign is a new effort to rally Americans to fight the emergency of global AIDS and extreme poverty. Each ONE of us can make a difference. Together as ONE we can change the world. We can beat: * AIDS * Starvation * Extreme poverty ONE billion people live on less than ONE dollar a day. ONE by ONE, we can help them help themselves." -taken from one.org Please visit ONE.org and sign the declaration asking President Bush to help fight poverty at this year's G8 leaders meeting on July 6th urging him to: - Help the poorest people of the world fight poverty, AIDS and hunger at a cost equal to just ONE percent more of the US budget on a clear timetable - Cancel 100% of the debts owed by the poorest countries - Reform trade rules so poor countries can earn sustainable incomes.

Just a quick clarification: it's not just America the ONE campaign targets. During u2's Vertigo tour in Australia in 2007, over 10,000 texted in to sign the declaration, and not just those that attended the concerts. Music is a fantastic way to spread awarness, especially when backed by such a high profile musician like Bono, or band like u2. Again, just look at the World Aid concerts, and the Green Earth concerts...We need to see more celebraties banding together to join a cause.
Yes, they donate and fund, but it's only a drop in the bucket. If everyONE banded together to support a cause, it could be dealt with, and then the world to focus on another cause.
That's what the ONE campaign is about, banding together in support. Yes, every drop helps, but with more people, a real splash can be made. With enough people, we can cause enough of a wave to eradicate poverty, and MAKE POVERRTY HISTORTY!

I was tempted to sign the declaration, until I read their policy on trade. Free trade has been proven to help get countries out of poverty, just look at Hong Kong.

As everyone knows...just one person can make a ripple. It just depends on how vast the lake is

if you saw the trade rules that are in favor of the wealthy countries as opposed to the poor, you would think otherwise. WTO, World Bank, and IMF are the ones who are holding back these countries prosperity.
