Many of our brothers and sisters in the immigrant communities are taking place in this protest on May 1st, many of them may lose their jobs for not showing up to work. Because their community values reflect a need to provide for and support their families, not as many people will be taking place in this day as one might hope. If there are any gatherings or marches where you live, consider going and showing your solidarity with your neighbors. They would be there with you but they are busy feeding their families. Man am I glad Joey Dauben doesn't hang around anymore, I probably would have a brain anurism if I had to deal with him on this. Grasias Amigos.

I liken the immigration issue to wanting to join the Thespian club at your school. You want to be able to go to school plays for free, but you don't want to have to get initiated or do all the plays you need to in order to get in. So instead, you go out in the street and wave a sign around about how upset you are that you can't be a Thespian and thus can't get into plays for free, neglecting to mention how you never actually tried to apply in the first place.

Illegal immigrants don't really bother me. The fact that they go out and march to protest is what bugs me. You're here illegally; of course you have no rights! I mean, come on! It shouldn't be that hard to grasp.

RIGHT ON!

So special that they are above the law that we all abide by? No, no one's THAT special, I've many friends who have done the paperwork, one who actually went back to the border to do it, it's not hard quit making excuses.Yes, supporting your family is noble but you could support them AND have a green card. Quit biting the hand that feeds.

Oh really, I saw the movie, nothing big is actually gonna go down. These people are just trying to cut corners in the law and no one's worried because America is their only hope, despite their insolence toward it, either they abide by our laws or go home and focus on reforming their socialist government (who, by the way, owns one of the largest oil wells in the world and squanders it). And since no one is going to push Vicente Fox out of power, no one is going to leave America's abundance to Mexico's poverty.

Oh. Finally saw something about it on the news,
since no one wanted to explain it to me...
=]

The casinos aren't worried.
Some small business are just closing, because the majority if their workers are participating.

However, not going to school does not show how important immigrants are to the community. These kids should stay in school and their educations. Stupid, stupid kids.

So many kids have missed enough school, atleast in my city, and a lot of them didn't even know what they were protesting. They knew they wanted to be involved in he cause, but when asked, they had no idea what the cause was. If a person is educated about a situation, and still wants to leave school or his/her job for the day, that's fine. But it's ridiculous otherwise.

This May 1 protest, what is so different about it?

My spanish class this year was over half Hispanic...you should have seen our normally small class of 16 on the first day of rotests in our area. I think there were 5 of us who actually showed up for class. The prof is Hispanic too though, so he didn't care in the slightest.

I think there's also a boycott as well. Like not buying anything or using any services that Mexicans likely will provide.

There will also be many kids who'll ditch school in support of illegal immigrants. I think that's stupid as the walkouts were, but to each his own...
