I think people a long time ago saw an animal that looked similar to the myth but it probally died out a long time ago and i doubt it was exactly like the myth.

I think it would be awesome if Champ as real, being from Vermont and all, but I highly doubt that it's true... what kind of life span would this creature have? It can't possibly be as long as the legend's been around, therefor there would have to be more than one, and then what about inbreeding? How could a body of water that size support an animal (or animals) that size and still have any fish left in it? But what I'd really like to know is how these stories originated.

Hmm, I can't say whether I believe in it or not. There is enough proof in Cryptozoology that such creatures may not just be pure fiction and other beasts thought to be folklore have been discovered as real. It is interesting to note that other places where people have claimed to see other sea monsters, such as Lake Champlain, have similarities in fish and climate as Loch Ness.
Personaly I think its better as a mystery, I mean, just think what would happen if someone *did* prove Nessy was real. It probably wouldn't survive another week or go insane and kill somebody. Anyways, its an interesting topic for a research paper, especially if you bring up Nessy's relation with other eleged sea monsters and compare them.

Last week, Japanese scientists explaced... placed explosive detonators at the bottom of Lake Lochness to blow Nessy out of the water. Sir Godfrey of the Nessy Alliance summoned the help of Scotland's local wizards to cast a protective spell over the lake and its local residents and all those who seek for the peaceful existence of our underwater ally. please join us.

I would love to believe in Nessie. But alas my need for proof is more important. I did a research project for english on it. It was fun but did not lead me to believe in such a magnificent mythological creature.
