I was reading this book that had descriptions of the different styles of love and I thought I'd post it here and see if you guys could identify with any of them.
Ludus: The ludic love style views love as a game, refuses to become dependent on any one person, and does not ecourage another's intimacy. Two essential skills of the ludic lover are to juggle several partners at the same time and to manage each relationship so that no one partner is seen too often. These strategies help to ensure that the relationship does not deepen into an all-consuming love.
Pragma: The pragmatic love style is the love of the pragmatic who is logical and rational. The pragma lover asseses his or her partner on the basis of assests and liabilities. Economic security may be regarded as very important. The pragma lover does not become involved in interracial, long-distance, or age-discrepant partners, because logic argues against doing so.
Eros: Just the opposite of the pragmatic lover, the erotic lover is consumed by passion and romance. Intensity of both emotional and sexual feelings dictates one's love involvements. The love between Rose and Jack in the film Titanic was of the eros love style. It is also likely to decline with time.
Mania: The person with mania love style feels intense emotion and sexual passion but is out of control. The person is possessive and "must have" the beloved. Persons who are extremely jealous and controlling reflect manic love.
Storge: The storge love style is calm, soothing, nonsexual love devoid of intense passion. Respect, friendship, commitment, and familiarity are characteristics that help to define the relationship. The partners care deeply for each other but not in a romantic or lustful sense. Their love is also more likely to endure than fleeting romance.
Agape: One of the forms of love identified by the ancient Greeks, this love is selfless and giving, expecting nothing in return. The nursing and caring partners are concerned only about the welfare and growth of each other.
I must point out that it is possible and more likely for someone to be a combination of two love styles.
So which one do you think suits you best and why?
