Everyone seems to have an opinion on something here, which is really great, but at the same time, many people have gotten into the habit of expressing themselves through baseless arguments. this leads to heated discussions, which, in turn, leads many people to digress from any possiblity of logical thought, which THEN leads to arguments of pure emotion (and sometimes aggression). the result? chaos. the same arguments are made time and time again, only serving to perpetuate the vicious mindset of "i dont agree with you, so therefore i must attack your position." if you really want to get your point across, attacking the other person is NOT going to help you achieve your goal! That said...all i ask for and encourage others to do is to support your opinion with some sort of independent information (whether it be internet, newspapers, magazines, books, teachers...etc.). BETTER YET, if you could even cite your source(s), that would be great! not only does it boost your credibility, but it can make you sound smarter too! (i mean, c'mon, who truly wants to sound stupid?) So PLEASE, for those of you who would like to have a respectful, intelligent discussion with other people on the board, try getting sources to support your opinion. you may learn something in the process!

In my opinion, the problem lies more in those who refuse to acknowlege the legitimacy of an argument (even when provided with numerous sources and logical arguments), and resort to spewing personal insults and arguments that boil down to "because I said so, and you suck! so there!" Notice that I say "acknowledge the legitimacy" not "agree with." It's understandable that even the logical among us (and I don't claim to be included in that number, mind you) often end up doing the virtual equivalent of throwing up their hands and yelling "shut the f*ck up, you ignorant piece of sh!t." Admittedly, this isn't the most mature or constructive way to go about things, but one can only handle a certain amount of idiocy, repeat threads, and baseless finger-pointing.
Blessings, Jen.

Many of us provide sources when asked.
Try reading some of the abortion and/or religion threads which comprise three-fourths of the forums.

gee sunset...thanks for your insightful intellect. if what i originally posted is a "no duh," as you say it is, then why is that i rarely (if not never) see anyone supporting their opinions through legitimate sources?
