in reply to what geminiangel posted...i think this is a great idea. more schools like this should open up all over the world. as for after they graduate...HOPEFULLY the people surrounding them will have grown up enough to accept the fact that yes, some people are different. my friend grew up in an incredibly sheltered family, she can't even TALK to boys. she is the biggest homophobe, is super racist AND hates to hear my friends talk about their periods because its "disgusting" even though she has hers. now you're probably wondering why the hell i'm friends with her....she's grown up A LOT in the past years. i'm really proud of her. she used to hate gays and lesbians, but now she just doesn't understand why they do what they do. i hope everyone who is against this gets some sense knocked into them because its something we're gonna be dealing with for a LOOONG time.

I don't know where to stand on this issue. First I was for it but then it's true- there won't be any safe haven for gays in later life... Since there are girl schools, you can't really cut out other people either though just because they may be a bit different.

I'm am actually glad that they are opening a all-gay high school in NYC. However, its not the first all-gay school, but the first all-gay public school. I believe there is another one in Houston and in San Francisco. I read up on them some time ago... I don't agree of using taxpayers money to manage this school, but I am glad its there none the less.

Anyways, its just another step for the LGBT [lesbians, gay, bisexuals, and transgenders] to be recognized. Now, more then ever, America's youth is coming out of the closet and willing to deal with the consequences. I'm tired of people sneering and jeering at me because I am different than them. I came out after deciding that I was not going to be somebody else. I was tired of lying to myself with these false hopes that I might be straight, that I might be "normal.' I guess i realized that when the only norm available in american society is basically unattainable by anyone.

I chose to stand out. So I applaud these students who are willing to attend a highschool that will obviously be under constant attention from other people who believe being different is wrong. So basically, I am taking this school as another loud and clear statement from the LGBT community.

We are human, but we are individuals who stand out.
We are not second class citizens to be ignored, or shut down, put down, or treated any less equal then others.
We, as american citizens, strive to be treated the same as any american citizen, be he gay or straight. I hope that one day I can walk down the street, holding hands with my boyfriend, and not be given dirty looks, or have to hear people yell dirty names from a safe distance.

I dated a guy in 8th grade (i'll be in 10th in Sep) and he was teased all the time for being gay. and i was teased for dating him. after about 2 months he broke things off with me sayin he didn't want to hurt me, didn't like it wen i was being persecuted, and wanted to be friends instead. ever since then we've been really close friends. it wasn't until January of last year that he came out to me. He's Bi. every now and then a group of our friends will talk about gays in school and how there are hardly any. he and i were both in the group at the time and i said i knew a few gays/lesbians/bi's. i was asked if any were in this room, and half the ppl looked at my ex, and i said no to avoid further question and perhaps people assuming things. my close friend wasn't ready and still isn't ready to come out.

there is no point to this post...lol.

but thats just my experience. Wink

know exactly how you feel. i never told anyone i was lesbian [until my best friend got it out of me and then he told everyone else] and i still am nervous about people knowing because of all the prejudice and such...

do i have a point to this post?

anyway, i get really annoyed with people who cant just accept that there are people out there that arent exactly like them!

You were scared and thats ok...But everybody gots to be true to themselves...I have a friend she is bi, I didn't know she was bi, but the thing is...I didn't care. She's a great friend...she will never lie to me and she tells everything the way it is up front. Gays shouldn't be afarid to stand out. You just need to stand up for what you believe in. Good Luck in the future. Smile

the new school thing i dont think is a good idea mainly cause of what gemini ( i think ) said; out in real life there is no shelter of that sort. but you know, now they can get an education free of harrassment. it works both ways i think ^^;

n' for kicks...
No hablo español bien, sino que hablo japonés. Wink
er, i think that's right ^^; i only have half a year of spanish in my brain!

Actually, they do have Black Academies, just so you were aware. And there are all-girls schools, as well as all-boys schools. The schools were formed to ensure that everyone had an equal opportunity to learn and be safe in that environment. Why should homosexuals be denied the same rights as blacks, females, and males?

I don't see why gays get their own school. I mean, we are all different, and that's a good thing. If a white boy or a black girl were getting harrased at school about their race, they couldn't just up and start their own schools (Africans American Academy or Caucausion Education League) No, that's why we integrated! So I don't see why gays could just up and start they're own school. We all have problems, just suck it up and deal with it...
