artemisgirl and I wanted to start up youthnoise in our school, when the idea was brought by a teacher up to our principal for consideration he turned it down because somebody had mentioned that they were homosexual on the debate subject we had printed out for an example. I don't think that's right that our idea, an improvement for the school should be turned down because somebody put their opinion up. That totally violates what youthnoise is about, freedom of speech! I don't know what to do though.

I tried to link you directly in your profile, but that didn't work.

A generic starting way to find volunteer groups is to go to google maps, type in where you live, and type in volunteer under the "business" category.

We are not very well liked at the public schools because they assume we are rich snobs (which I , for one, am not(parents just wanted me to learn about dad's religion)).

Also, we aren't allowed to promaote anything that isn't approved by all the teachers. I see your point though, and I will try.

Try starting a club outside of school? Or finding a volunteer club in your area and promoting it at your school?

People have tried implementing YN at their school before, and what happened a few years ago was people who only came on because their teacher told them to created about a dozen private conversation threads.

What you could do, though, is spread it word of mouth and not make it so much a school established thing as a free time thing.

Finally, since you go to a private school, your principal, sadly, has the right to say that.

EDIT: Is there a public school with a debate team nearby? Because sometimes they allow you to join.

Yeah, and, of course, I was one of the ones who lost. Our school is WAY in debt (parish is over 2 million in), and the only clubs are Math and Spanish club, which no one joined so they were cut.
We did try to start a debate team last year, but the teacher who was in charge of stuff like that said "yeah, nice idea" and didn't help. We have tried all kinds of things, but everything, including the school, is crumbling.

Yes, sweetiepie 20 always puts this up with her comments / quote:
I like girls... Alot. OH and i'm a homosexual.

The principal said it was inappropriote and inmoral to post such things and that youth noise should restrict the members freedom of speech to make it more suitable.

I go to a private school and we don't have very many teams and have not a single club, we're not poor but we're definitaly not as privilaged as most schools, the elections just ended and of course it ended up being a popularity contest so the candidates who really cared about the issues didn't get into office.

This may be just me, but it may be more beneficial to start a debate team than to get people to debate on YN.

Also, is there a way to do more projects in the student council sans YN?

We were going to start it up in our student council, start more projects through yn involving our school, to raise awarness in other students, and we don't have a debate team so it would be nice to let students have permission to go on during a break and defend their belifs. And I suppose that's just my opinion of yn, the freedom to agree or disagree and stand up for anything u believe in without being reprimanded.

I'm curious about what Amp and Shade have said, and how you know for certain that it will be an improvement.

Also, are you certain that the homosexuality thing was the reason it was negated? Did your principal actually say that? And if so, do you know why?

yes I'm curious about that as well...

and YN is more a result of freedom of speech then about it...

yn is about freedom of speech? I'm also wondering, in what way are you "starting up" yn in your school?
