question why is it okay for blacks to say black power but when white people say white power they are immediatle Labled racist?

Taz, I am proud of my culture and as proud as I can be of my heritage and what my people are today. I believe that people should know what their heritage is all about and not necessarily have to respect it and apreciate it, but recognize it as their own. The only problem with some things that people dont realize is that people do need to see past color, and realize that there is more to a person than their culture's past or history or image ... If you understand what I mean. But sometimes it is difficult, and it is rightfully so. Especially when certain people give you no choice...
There is always a choice though, and there is always a chance to treat people how you would like to be treated, despite how they treat you.

I am black, and I am very proud of what other black people have accomplished. But what one thing I dont and wont ever do is discriminate! I don't believe in fighting racism with racism. How is what you say any different than what a racist white guy says or what a racist asian guy says or what and indian guy says? Basically it's all in the same pot; it's all bull****! People need to stop seeing the color of one's skin and just see the person, whether they're black or white or asian or whatever!

people, i think that "gangsta" is talking about being proud of what black people have become nowadays. this isnt on a positive note, of course, he is saying that our heritage is the rap music and the gangs and the baggy clothes... just for that ignorance, i normally wouldnt take the time out to respond to such stupidity, but the mentioning of the "white devil" and how gays need to step out of the spotlight is crazed and dazed... everyone has the right to express how they feel, get a life gangsta, it isnt difficult... you get what you give, and you are in charge of what you become. it is your own choice...

You put your own self in the ghetto. My mom lived in rural south carolina up until she was about 20 and decided to stop the trend of poverty that was common in our family, she moved up to Alaska with her husband (my dad) and got a job with a housing company. That was 30 years ago. Today she's making a salary of over $80,000 a year. Combine that with my dad's salary and our household income is well over $120,000 a year. Almost 80 percent of Alaska's population is white yet somehow my black parents were able to earn more money than most. Want to know how? My parents NEVER blamed their problems on ANYONE but themselves and they never dwelled on anything bad in their lives. My sister is well on her way to becoming a nurse because she has a good education and a degree in biology to show it. None of the successful and well educated people in my family had to fight or kill anyone to get where they were. They just stayed in school and studied.

Unlike you I'm not going to sit around and blame white people for everything. I'm going to make something out of my life by going to an art school. If you want to go ahead and be incredibly stupid, go for it. The only way you can get your self out of the "ghetto" is by staying in school.

I understand you being upset about what happened to your ancestors. It's understandable. And racism still happens today. Actually it's happening right now on this thread, gangsta, you are being racist against whites. If you were really trying to be an advocate against racism and for equality to help your race, you wouldn't be advocating FOR racism and blaming the "whiteys" for your problems. Everyone has the potential to do whatever they want. If you have a why, you can find a how.

I have some friends who are African-American (being PC and all right now ), and I have the deepest respect for them because they work so hard for themselves and they are great people and some of the best human beings that I have had the pleasure knowing. You can be proud of your heritage, but do something positive for your heritage and not negative. Like right now, you are (or trying to) representing your race, since you are blaming others, your whole race is blaming others. Why not forget about individual races and think of the HUMAN race. We are all in the same boat of existance.

Oh, and gay rights do matter. I can't understand why you are saying that when 40 or 50 years ago people said that AF. Am. rights didn't matter.

okay dont even start on what the "whiteys" have supposedly done to yall. This is what Bill Cosby was talking about a couple months ago - blacks are in the "ghetto" because they wont take personaly responsibilty for their actions. Look around, not all blacks are sitting on thier butts in the hood. Look at Condoleeza Rice, Colin Powell, and Bill Cosby - they all are black who overcame incredible odds because of their color - but they arent complaining. They are actually doing something for the better man.

Dont blame your probelms on other people. Thats one of our biggest probelms in America - people wont take responsibility for their actions. Whites dont stand in the way of getting yall jobs - and they as heck arent the reason yall kill each other. You have your full rights already. Happy? Yes, there are racist people, but that will NEVER leave the world. Racism will always exist, and you just have to move on with your life.

I may now be insultive. Black people are stereotyped because the majority (note: MAJORITY, not all) try to "act black" to rebel to "show their pride". That's bull, if you WERE honestly proud of being black/white/latino/etc, you wouldn't have to flaunt it. You just would be black/white/latino/etc, and you woudln't try to fit the stereotype. Well black people go ahead and put themselves in the stereotype. They listen to rap, wear ridiculous fashion, and then complain of being treated differently or of being stereotyped. Well, darn, you're putting yourself in there.

Everyday of my life I break the Puerto Rican stereotype. You know how? By not speaking with a fake accent, by not dressing like I'm going to be a streetwalker, by listening to music that's not regueattón/salsa/etc, by not having a child at my age, etc. People are astounded when I say I'm Puerto Rican because they expect to see another person because of my ethnicity. I'd rather have a laugh when people say "What? You're from San Juan?" than they already assume "Ah...look at that ghetto ___....she should be like Puerto Rican or Mexican or soemthing".

I do have pride in my heritage. By showing that pride I don't listen to that disrespectful rap music, I don't care for bling, I don't acknowledge people who discriminate against me because I know I'm smater than them, I don't like black men who wear their pants down to their knees, I don't talk like a thug, and I don't resort to violence in an altercation.

I learned my heritage by opening books and sticking my nose in them and reading. I learned from my grandmother. I learned that black slaves have had a bigger influence on American culture than you might think.
