Maybe it's just me, but since this bush administration bit, everytime I hear the words "America" or "red, white, and blue" or "patriotism" or any other kind of patriotic word, it sounds so republican.

I don't know why this is, but lately it seems as if it has gotten worse.

Does anybody else feel this way?

You obviously don't understand why he "went off on you". If you knew anything about Mexico and their government and their economy, then maybe you'd be more understanding. But that aside, you sounded derogitory toward them, too.

And WorthWaitingFor-
I know it's not all. And I know that some christians are moderate, or even extremely liberal (look at episcapalians (sp?)) but yeah...
And North Carolina is SOOOOO much different than the Texas/Arkansas/Missouri/Oklahoma area.

I don't have anything against the pledge. Last year in English, my teacher handed out a copy of the pledge to a student and told the student to read it. The pledge was missing the word "indivisable", but when the student read the pledge aloud, she didn't realize that the word was missing. The point was that basically we are mindlessly pledging our loyalty to our country. It is almost like second nature and we really don't think about our words.

What do you guys have against the pledge besides the "under God" part (I can understand that one)? I mean, it's pledging your loyalty to the country you live in!

I just don't see what all the hububb is about, bub.

That's really cool! Who cares if the advisor was mad at you; you have the right to say what you want.

I'm in student government and student government members have to recite the pledge to the school over the loudspeaker. When it was my turn, I recited the pledge but left out "under God". It was great. The advisor was kind of mad, but I feel like I made my point.

That is brilliant! I'm saying the pledge unless we invade another country unnecessarily (sp?), in which case I will cease to do so in protest.

But some of us are
1. United Church of Christ

3. All for gay rights/marriage/people/whatever
4. Knowledgable about the world around them
5. Very educated, 4th in their class.

I know that you were giving how most, not all, rednecks/Southern people are. But, as a person who grew up and lives in NC, I just like to point out every once and awhile that, though many are like the five things you said, some (like myself) are not.

I am more on the liberal side...and I say the pledge, and sing the songs, and shoot off fireworks on July 4th (mostly because they're pretty). I think you can be liberal and still support the country you live in and the freedoms you have.

Curse those Southern Baptists...CURSE THEM!!!

My church makes fun of them.

Yea I don't say the pledge. I started off by leaving out "under god", and then I decided the whole thing was crap. But I do stand. And yes, when I hear "America" I too think Republican....I wonder why that is.

There was a big "I'm not saying the pledge" thing at my school last year among a certain group of people, and we came up with things to put in instead of "under god". First it was "under satan," but that was just funny the first time, so then we sterted saying-

"One nation under Canada, and above Mexico"

And it's the best.

Well, you sound totally accepting and tolerant of others. No, you're not psychopathic in the least. No way, not you. (sarcasm)

Just kidding. (not sarcasm) I respect you and most of the conservatives on here. I just don't like your viewpoints.

celtic why do you associate conservatives with rednecks? If you've heard some of your liberal friends you would relize that not all liberals are "educated people". Some are psychopathic intolerant hippie *******s.

You dont have to say the pledge but you have to stand, to show respect for those that have died to give you the right not to say it. No one is forcing you to say the pledge in school. I know many liberals in my class who say nothing through the entire pledge but at least they stand. I have no respect for people who do not at least stand for the pledge

I have never not said the Pledge of Allegiance and I am about as democrat as you can get. I have never not read from the Declaration of Independence in civics class, either.

Often I don't go into July 4 with a gung-ho attitude because so many people now use it as an excuse for "Look at us in Iraq," etc., etc. It is our Independence Day, not Iraq's.

The feeds are even better when the signs say "God Bless America, Christian Buckwheat Pancake Breakfast Sunday!"

That's because you will never meet an American butt-kissing Democrat, we're too smart for that crap. ;-)

However, every white trash redneck in America is a Republican. Good thing Bush was reelected then, we can really see how the people in 'Merca.

That's because so many Repoblicans have really been touting the patriotic line.A lot of Dems don't because they're embarrased by how their government is representing America. Republicans aren't necesarrily more patriotic, they just promote themselves to have "American" values. I am every bit as American as anyone else. Many Dems are enabling Republicans to get away with that redwhiteandblue **** by not making this point. C'mon, let's take back the flag! We have a bumper sticker on our car with a peace sign over the American flag.

Also, has anyone else noticed the prevalent "God Bless America"s right next to various advertising? Here, we see, "God Bless America 12 Hotdogs for $5.99!" Or "God Bless America Bucwheat Feed Sunday" (Yes, they call public breakfasts "feeds" around these parts.)

I guess this is just testimony to our consumer nation, when prayer is another comercial.

Maybe people should post their most ammusing GBA (God Bless America) sightings or start a new thread...
