I don't understand why there is so much ageism in society. Young people are treated like second-class citizens it is so unfair. Age is just a number. It is wrong to stereotype a whole generation because of a few bad images in the media. All these haters don't understand what it's like to constantly be discriminated against.

That's also true.

The bare minimum age for employment is 16, but some workplaces bump it up to 17 or 18 depending on the work being done. By law, there are certain jobs people younger than 18 cannot do because they're considered too dangerous. And the age limit also depends on what's being sold. For instance, you must be 21 to work at a bar because 21 is the drinking age. Places that sell or rent R-rated movies or M-rated games usually set the limit at 17. Usually, places want employees they don't need to train, which is why it's harder for younger people to get jobs. But it's not impossible, and it's not limited to young teenagers. I wasn't able to get a job until well after I turned 18.

Example,it is very hard for young people to find jobs, there is often a minimum age for candidates to even apply. It took me 7 months to get a job, maybe they look for experiance but how can young people gain experaince if hardly anyone is willing to employ us. That is one example.

[QUOTE]So if a Presidential candidate talked like him and another talked like a normal person, you would say that there is no difference.QUOTE] It would all depend on the people in question. If both were known by there actions to be inteligent & productive people then no, it would not matter if one chose to use a different way of speaking than the other. Besides, by judging how LEK was speaking you took this thread off topic which is on Ageism, not on how people should/shouldn't speak. By the way Cap, you make a good point about credibility. Now, on topic, I have not been very discriminated against for age but then again I don't know what you are specificly talking about LEK. Like I said before, please give an example.

I don't think I've ever been discriminated against because of my age. And I certainly don't judge people based on their age.

quote: The way you speak has a lot to do with credibility.
It also has a lot to do with where you grow up. I live in Detroit and I talk like what some people consider "street". My words run together, I don't pronounce half the syllables on my words, etc. but that doesn't have anything to do with who I really am. I have a friend from a valley-girl part of Maine, and she uses the words "like" and "totally" in every sentence, but it doesn't have anything to do with who she really is. I don't think the way you speak really has that much to do with credibility; it's the way think, what ideas you have, what you can do for the world.
And I would never feel pain / and never be without pleasure, ever, again / and if the reign stops, and everything's dry, he would cry just so I could drink the tears from his eyes...

Children don't deserve the right to be treated as equals, because they aren't. I am not an immature, irresponsible, selfish, street-talking individual and I do not wish to be considered equal to you when I am obviously superior. Get over it, kid.

You are discriminated against because you say things like "haters" and because you whine like a baby.

Actually, they probably do because they were young once. And it's not just young adults who are stereotyped. The elderly have it pretty bad as well, since people seem to get the impression that they can't do anything and/or need to be shunned from society once they retire. I think a lot of it stems from our society, from forcing people into productivity roles and trying to shun/ostracize those who do not follow the norms and/or don't contribute.
