I was at a camp, and we all had to group up with someone and I got this black girl, I started some conversation with her like "whats your name" and "what sports are you in" and she answered, but didnt seem to want to talk, so I shut my mouth. when we went to drag all of our stuff to the campsite, this girl puts all her stuff in a pile in front of me and says "my ancestors worked for you whites for years! now its your turn!" then she walked away. I was pretty mad, so I told the troop leaders, and she was made to pick up even my stuff all alone in the dark. serves her right.

hey i was doing a portfoilio on black rights versus white rights why not human rights and i came across this and had to add my two cents in. i am black but from my own experience i do know black people who can be racsist against others but they probably wouldnt bluntly state that and whoever that was that said that blacks are the reason for slavery has not been completely paying attention in history yes some blacks were turning in other blacks but what u must understand is that they didnt go the white people and say hey we know some people who can slave for you the U.S. started out with indentured servants and they werent able to control them when they rebelled therefore they went to slavery like in other countries and they found that Africa being with out weapons as massive as the U.S. were easy to control then tribes either triying to get out of slavery themselves and/or revengous agaisnt or rivaling other tribes would trade them in for money and other goods so yes Africans did sell each other out but we DID NOT start slvery i as well live in a white city and love every single white person here even the ones who have verbally expressed prejudic against me due to my christianity i often wonder myself why we have months and cynco de mayo and st. pats day and valentines day which is greek or roman i think but its for those foreigners who came here and struggled for years to be treated as equals to the "whites" the "civilized people" those days are to remind us that we made it we have our rights we can do what ever the whites can even though some may still not like it. its not to rub in your face its a day or month of remberance or at least it is to me...to me its not a day to say black power or mexican power or irish power or whatever its to say american power i am apart of the american power because of what my ancestors went through and fought for not to over power the whites but to be americans WITH the whites like in Martin Luther King Jr. i have dream speech that one day his kids could walk hand in hand with little white girls and boys!(not exact words) what happen to the melting pot days i never lived in africa so why am i an african american why not just american why mexican american or japenese american or whatever why not just AMERICANS! hey i should use this in my portfolio does any body mind if i use there words i wont use your display names or anything ill just say on youth noise some youth were talkin about.....

Ignoring ilovejulio because it would just take too long to say how wrong you are, I must say that perennial is essentially right with what racism used to mean & still means in some way. However, I must mention the simple truth that many whites (& other minorities such as the Hispanics) have been shown the kind of hatred that is true of racism by eachother & by other racial groups. The sad fact is that the idea of race makes some people hate other people. I hate it. I wish that it was simple enough to just say "let there be no more racism" & have it be gone from the world, but it won't. I love people of all races & as my previous comment on the matter will point out, while I am proud of my herritage I do not associate myself with the negative ideals & persona of the supposed "race" that my skin color says I am. The point is that NOTHING good will ever come from these continued fights about race. Everyone has done something wrong in this respect, but we all now have the chance to do something right. I move for a new way, a new message, & a new order. It's time that the slate got wiped clean. It's time that everyone forgot the grievances of the past & realized that we are all simply 100% human, regardless of our color. Great men like Ghandi & MLK preached this & I continue it! We CAN get past the past! We CAN make a better future! We CAN finally know brotherhood & sisterhood! If anyone who reads this refuses to see the truth & have their eyes opened then it will not be because the message was not delivered. Even if what I write now falls on deaf ears & blind eyes I WILL continue in the struggle, & I urge all who are willing to know true human love to join others like me, & maybe, one day, we will see a change in "race relations".
Namaste

Racism against the majority culture or race in a society/nation cannot exist, as racism is an institutional and structural phenomenon. The United States is and always has been based upon a white power structure, and always will retain this if fundamental progressive change isn't carried out. The mission of corporate propagandists (what you call the mainstream media) is to dissimulate actual racial power by redefining racism as only race prejudice or purposeful acts of individual discrimination. This is the true racism that MLK recognized.

What you have claimed to be racism cannot be. It sounds to me like what you witnessed is probably just an irrational outburst by an individual.

How about we all do something to end people being racist instead of just sitting around agreeing on the same thing? If you don't want racism against you, then learn how to beat it. I'd like to think that I'm nice with any and everyone I come into contact with, even when they haven't shown the same to me. I've met white and black people that have been the kindest and the most gentle people you would wish to meet. But I've also met the white and black people who were the complete opposite. It just goes to show that it isn't a race thing, it's a class thing.

Why would someone find this shocking? You act like somehow everybody else is just blind, deaf, and really stupid. Of course "black" people can be racist. Just like white, yellow, grey, red, and purple people can be racist too.

I'd like to make a point about the HBCUs(Historically Black Colleges and Universities). These colleges were primarily founded in a time when Higher education for Blacks was not readily available. These schools were vital to the advancement of Blacks. Now that all colleges admit Blacks people for some reason expect these schools to just go away. They accuse them of being "racist" against Whites. While it is true that most have very small non-Black populations it is not the fault of a racist admissions office. It is because many White kids, quite frankly, don't want to apply to a school that is 90% Black. I don't see why this is the case. Especially since many of these schools give SCHOLARSHIPS to white kids in the hopes of increasing their diversity.

Also, America was started by English colonists. Not a lot of black English colonists. You're going to, again, think this is racist, but most of the major American historical figures were white. Not that black people don't contribute to America. I'm not saying that I think it's good that it's like that, but it's the way it is.
Pilgrims, presidents, laws, congress, economics, the great depression...because geez, 'black culture' is so much more important than those...why should America learn about its past, come one...what is wrong with people these days?
Oh, and history minus world geography, government, and economics. Those are very very large parts of history.
Why should I do anything during a month that I disagree with. And sorry but even if I did agree with it I have a busy life and wouldn't do much anyway. My priorities are not to learn about different cultures, which let me state again, race is different from culture, you'd think most people who feel discriminated against would want everyone to believe that. Yeah no one's forcing me to celebrate black history month. But I still have a right to disagree with it and think it's wrong.

Did you even think about WHY there weren't many Black men founding America? Oh I don't know, maybe it was that thing called Slavery. Also, do you realize that people like you are the exact reason we stress Black History so much. Maybe if you did take the time out to go through some Black History you would realize that the were many Black historical figures. Why isn't learning about another culture a priority? Don't you realize how dangerous ignorance about other cultures is today?

WHITES!! because whites were the only people who actually counted and did anything simply because minorities were not allowed to. So I'm pretty sure having on month out of 12 dedicated to blacks isn't going to kill anyone. People just arent thinking about things...think about places to shop almost everywhere in the malls sells clothes that white people would shop for. Think about music...a white kid can listen to black music and thats acceptable but if a black kid were to listen to country he would get made fun of. There are so many ways in which blacks are still discriminated today but society and the government try to shape our minds to believe that we are all equal and i'm sorry to inform you that we are not!

I think that it just comes down to the fact that it is so much ingrained in our minds that each race is so different from the others that we do not know how to act around eachother or what we can say or what we should do. This then leads to racism, acting out our aggressions towards another group of people we don't understand. Obviously all races have people who are racist but all we can do is work towards influencing others and striving towards being united.

I personally would never want a "White History Month" or a "United Caucasian College Fund" or any of that bullshit. I am "white" by skin color only. I do not condone, accept, or praise the actions of the past that were performed by the "white man". I do know that yes "white people" are discriminated against nowadays because I have been a target myself, but the "minorities" still are as well. I DO NOT associate myself with being "white" because I'm not just another "whity". I am Swedish. I celebrate my ancestral herritage as everyone else should. My people had nothing to do with the atrocities of that time. My people fought the so-called "white people" who thought that they deserved to be in charge of the whole fucking world. I am Swedish, I am Viking, I am pirate, & I am Human. I know where I would have stood then as I know where I stand now. Holla!

I completely agree! There is racism against white people also. I am not a racist, but I find it absolutely amazing, how they have Black History Month and Cinco De Mayo. But if white people had something like that, oh my gosh, that would be bad. I can't even imagine the news coverage we would see about it.
