In Cali. they are thinking about lowering the voting age to 14 so that 14-15 year olds are 1/4th of a vote, 16 &17 years old 1/2 of a vote, and everyone over the age of 18 count for 1 vote.. I dont know what to say. It could go either way. People could not know what they are doing when they vote, and vote about the only person they have hard about. If they do that we might not get someone in office because of what there Ideas are... simply because of there popularty... this is not a homecoming election!!!!!!!!! But then yes because these people are going to be affecting us too! We should be able to have a say so in a person that is probaly going to affect our lives more then our parents or grandparents.....But thats only what i think. But what about you?

I personally would love to vote but it is not my place as a 14 year old. My peers especially would rely not on their knowledge but their parent's opinion. Many people at the age of 14 are not yet mature enough to handle voting and take it seriously, which would cause laws to be passed that shouldn't be and unqualified people to be elected.

And how many fourteen year olds do you know would vote? I mean, c'mon. These are eighth and ninth-graders for the most part, completely immature, irrational, and have much else to be concerned with. And frankly, I wouldn't put much faith in 16 yr olds either. I'm sixteen, and I can't imagine me voting right now, nor many of my peers. Why? There's just gobs of stuff about American government that I don't get, and I'm one of the more informed people I know. And sure, I'll bet a lot of adults don't get it either, but adults tend to be more mature, and rational (I'm generalizing here I know, but...) have the cognitive ability to know what voting entails, and the consequences of doing so. I truly doubt high school freshmen do.

Are you joking...A favorite quote of mine is
"One of the main arguements against democracy is to talk to the average voter about politics for 5 minutes"
Then comes the question, would you rather have the people that don't truely know what they're voting for not vote at all, or would you rather keep the apathy rate down..
Could start a new arguement..
