your parents were brought up with lots of different ideas... you know, when my parents were kids, schools were still segregated, so they didn't have much contact with other races at all until at least middle school if not high school.

my mom's family had 2 african americans working for them... myrtle (one of the people who worked for my grandparents) was very against interracial relationships, my mom says, mainly because black and white cultures even in america can be SO different.

i know she's right--there's so much about ANY culture different from mine that i don't understand. even... as a southerner i don't understand life in the north... as an easterner i don't understand life in the west... as a white person i have not been brought up to understand african american or asian american or other types of cultures... i have to learn this on my own.

that is one reason parents are against interracial dating/marriage.

i myself have come to a personal decision that if i find "the one" and he happens to be of a different race, so be it.

i guess it's okay...y does some parents disagree w/ it????

Everyone is entitled to their own opinion and I will respect those on the question whether I agree with them or not. As you should respect mine. But you were attacking my opinion (and, by extension, me) and I don't care what you think about what I think or about me. I ain't gonna change my mind.

i know what you're saying, "it would feel weird" to date a person of another race. that's probably the way you have been brought up--only dating others in your own race

that's definitely the way i have grown up. i'm just now starting to fully confront interracial issues in my life, after 4 (going on 5) years of college. it's great that y'all are discussing this as teenagers. you're much farther ahead in the path to equality of all people than i am, because of that.

I've never really thought about the question in detail but now that I have I wonder why it's a question at all. People are people, and I think interracial dating/marriage is a-okay.
However, to be honest, it would sort of feel weird to date somebody a different race. Not that I'm racist, it would just feel wierd.

There shouldn't be a huge deal about interracial dating. It's not like "Wow- I'm dating a Chinese person", and all that crap. No, you are not dating a Chinese person, you are dating a person, and it shouldn't matter what they look like. There is nothing wrong with interracial dating/marriage/sex. In fact, it should just be called dating... the interrracial is irrevelent.

People should marry/reproduce with whoever they choose, -if- they love that person. Hopefully people will come to the blank realization that everyone is going to die sometime; others sooner than later, so you might as well let yourself love who you love, regardless of race, sex, etc.

what you're saying is, race mixing is problematic because if i were to marry an intelligent african american man and we had children, our children: a) would be stupid b) would also be poor and c) would help lead America into the abysses of hell... or something to that effect. that's about as "careful a study" as i can gather that you are giving.

also i don't get your comparison of mingling races to communism.

in another posting, you have pushed facism as a form of government that might work? it has as many flaws as communism. personally i think communism might work in a very small nation--one that doesn't have room for bureaucracy or people who abuse their power... as occurred in the USSR.

Damn straight. I never claimed that I wasn't. There needs to be a clear boundary between the races. The races should not be mixed. Stick to your own damn kind.

What's the big deal w/ interracical dating? I mean, you can't help who you love/like. The only thing I have a problem with is people loving people of the same sex. I think that that is all in their heads. But as for interracial dating....I am in love with this Asian kid at my school, and I'm Caucasian. So there!
