Why is our society so focused on one way of life that when another way of life tries to come in,we quickly bash and try to get rid of that way without even trying to understand what they are going through or where they're coming from and we dont try to step into their shoes. And I mean gays, other races and other religions. And I dont me we as in actual we, I mean we as in the majority of people.

Foucault referred to that nature as "othering", in case anyone is interested. Hey, this is now spell-checking everything!

Ah yes, the X factor has always been a problem. As Ikki implied in her post, people fear what they cannot understand. We cling to groups and people that are similar to us in every aspect be it race, sexual preference, religion and so on. It is truly sad because in doing so we condemn ourselves to live in a very small world. We miss out on the beauty of other cultures and the knowledge of other ideas. I personally like different. I love diversity. Perhaps one day we can learn to embrace diversity as a whole. Sadly, I doubt that day will ever come.

In the words of the townspeople in Beauty and the Beast: "We don't like what we don't understand, in fact it scares us." I feel that has some relevance to this issue.
