There is no "American blood", everyone in the US except for the native Americans came from somewhere else so that's a ridiculous statement.

Even they came from Asia.

I don't understand what this obsession with what to call people is. How is it unPC to call someone black but okay to call someone white? Anyone else see a double standard?

And technically, an "African-American" can be white. There are white people in Africa. I think the only time someone should be called an African American is if they personally immigrated here. I call my friend, Aquasi, African American but only because he immigrated here and became a citizen 3 years ago.

While your ideal of a world without differences is a nice one, the fact is that some of us have different skin color and some people are treated differently because of that skin color. To get rid of words that show differences between people would just be downright silly. The reason people used "African American" for so long is that it was supposed to be more politically correct than "black" or "brown" or whatever. Everybody knows what you mean when you say black or white, unless of course you are referring to that grey area occupied by Michael Jackson.

I just read this again and wanted to add...(I couldn't edit my last post because it's days old).

i hope im doing this right cause this is my first post -- well here it goes:
i agree that these terms are outdated. in todays society people are soo overly obsessed with being politically correct. i mean honestly if your bon in america; raised in america then you're american. heres an odd example: ohk so its inda like this .. suppose i moved to hawaii right (backtrack a little, im from PA) would i call myself a hawaiian or pennsylvainian.. not a pannsylvainan-hawaiian.. geeze .. idk its random example but yeahh right now im just rambling on so i think im gonna go

the color of my skin is brown, and so are both of my parents. we all were born & raised in america. to me this makes us "american". but i still know where i came from and how i got here. Never been to africa but that's obvious isnt it? a name is just a name, right? when it comes to race it doesnt seem that simple. its pretty clear that a person from africa is from africa. we didnt choose to be called african americans. "caucasians" decided on that term. when blacks werent considered citizens of america they were still americans cause u cant be an african if u werent born in africa. Jamacians are not african jamacians. But this isnt jamacia. its the USA. and a black person cannot simpily be called American. and some blacks feel "offended" by being referred to as african. does it really matter? i dont see that as the real problem at all. whether its a by a store, school, or by race there always seems to be a need to separate people in order to define themselves.

I hate both the terms. It's just..... like this.... "I'm not Russian, I'm a Slav!".... it's just stupid. You're both American. Not "Caucasian" or "African American".

This is the typical "I'm American I'm so great" attitude that gets people to hate "Americans".
