Well bloodylogos, I'm glad to see at least one of your posts make a good point. ICELAND however, I know you would get your *** handed to you if you fought a 6 year old girl, so that’s besides the point. Amaris, you are already an admittedly stupid person, and that’s probably the reason that you didn’t see the fetus part as sarcasm/joking. The Norse and the amazons are exceptions, cause the Norse kicked some major ***. But if we went to war now, I'm not sure about you all, but I'd have a problem with killing a woman. Whenever an emergency happens, who gets out first? Women and children. In war, you’re supposed to not attack medics, and civilians (women and children). I'm sorry, but women are naturally the homemakers. I mean, that’s the way it is, that’s the way it’s always been. And I assume I get a slap with the ****ing sexiest pig remark? And it is a rare case in which a woman can beat a man in hand to hand combat.

Women are at a disadvantage in hand to hand combat because they tend to be a lot smaller than men and do not build muscle as easily, but these things can easily be overcome. And, women naturally have better balance, and skill is a HUGE part in hand to hand combat, so it really depends on who has better training. A 150 pound female athlete vs. a 150 pound male athlete, the fight is about even. Any trained fighter is deadly with a knife or weapon, man or woman.
Joan of Arc. Xena (yes, Xena actually existed) Scheherazade (a muslim warrior princess)
The Israeli army drafts women and men 50/50, and it is known for being a very efficient and effective army.
How do you think the Amazons got such a good reputation? (The Amazons lived in Northern Africa, on the coast of the Meditterranean). Their descendants still live there today.
The Vikings had female fighters called Shieldmaidens (different from Valkyries) that were quite successful in combat. Why? Simple. They were trained just like any other Viking. And a Viking woman back then was probably taller than any male opponent she faced in another country, so I'd bet a Shieldmaiden was pretty intimidating to face for a short German or English guy.
A woman with a gun is just as dangerous as a man with a gun. Therefore, it makes no sense for women not to be in the military.

Actually, in many situations (including combat), women are not equal to men.. on a general scale. You can't really deny that. I'm all fore equality, but sometimes, you have to be practical that physically, women were not MADE for extreme physical strain, unless they train their bodies for it. Men, on the other hand (generalization), are built to fill the task of labor. When men and women are tested to become firefighters, women actually have an easier test, in that they don't need to lift as much in weights, etc. Honestly, I would rather have a male firefighter rescue me in such a situation... because he underwent the more rigorous test. Sure, women can join the army, air force, navy, whatever... and of course there are those females who surpass the stereotypes (and I'm all for girl power), but generally speaking, men really are better at certain things than women.. and vice versa. Equality is a fine concept, but sometimes, impossible to practice.

quote: a freakin fetus could kill an Iraqi. But I forgot,
There's no point in arguing with you on that, and anyway, a fetus is inside of a woman, so if a fetus killed a man, it would technically be the woman killing the man. quote: women are also obliged to be homemakers,
o-blige (-blij)v.1. To constrain by physical, legal, social, or moral means. No we're not. There's nothing else I have to say. I am not constrained by physical, legal, social or moral means to be a homemaker. quote: From the dawn of time, men have been the providers and women have been the homemakers. Sorry, but that’s how it works.
Sorry, but that's not the only way it can work. It can be that way, but that's not the only way it has to be. I know a very competent family where the father stays home, takes care of twins, and cooks and cleans, and the mother is a very succesful lawyer. ****ing sexist pig.

Women are NOT equal to men in combat. The fact that a women could kill an Iraqi means nothing, a freakin fetus could kill an Iraqi. But I forgot, women are also obliged to be homemakers, so no, they’re not equal in that respect either (unless they're single or the family REALLY needs money). And I know a bunch of you liberals/feminists think that men should be at home cooking, but that’s one heaping load of BS From the dawn of time, men have been the providers and women have been the homemakers. Sorry, but that’s how it works.

JESSICA LYNCH ring a bell? After her entire squad was captured or killed she refused to go down. Defending herself against an entire squad of Iraqi troops. She was shot and stabbed because after she ran out of ammo she engaged in some hand to hand.

Why can't women fight in combat? There is women in the war w/ Iraq right now & there saving are sorry a.s.ses! So... acutaly women CAN/WILL do the same things as men & maybe can do them better... & Disturbed... uh... maybe you should have said "And feminazis can kiss my sorry, no good a.s.s." that would have been perfect! -SC13

I think women deserve to be treated the same as men in most things, but there are some things that women never should/could be equal in. One of these (mainly) is combat. Even if women gained equality in every other matter, it would be very difficult/impossible to have women participate in armed combat. I'm not saying this as a sexist, but having women in combat is not feasable or practicle. I'm not sure what everyones views on this subject are, but i know for the most part, women are happy with not being in armed combat (except for some extreme femenist groups). The facts are, that women have been left out of military combat since the beginning of practical warfare. Would they be able to kill? Would men be able to kill women? Would womens emotions put others lives in danger? These are all things to consider before trying to treat women equally in this respect.
Otherwise, I think women should be entitled to hold the same job positions (if they are competant) as men. But there will always be many jobs that women are just not fit for.

Pfft, we can live with our hands. Oh and now this is Katie, my right hand saying "Screw you!"
I have nothing wrong with equality...but we aren't equal. We never will be. Our bodies are not the same. In general, women are not as strong as men. When standards have to be lowered to accomodate for women, there is a problem. As long as the women can meet the same requirements as the men have to meet, fine, great, dadny, go be a firefighter. But since most cannot, they ***** (what women do best), and they sue. YAY!
And feminazis can suck my ****. Wait, no, ewww, scratch that last one.

disturbed: shut the **** up *laughs*. trust me, you don't want to really fight with a gurl, we have tricks up our sleeves that you don't even want to deal with. Women are awesome, i think we should be treated ABOVE equal. we have your babies, and without us, you'd be spending the night with your hand- hehe. Sorry i had to put that in. But the point is women are still not treated equal. My mom didn't get a job because she was a woman, they told her that flat out. At another job, this guy kept askin to 'get' with my mom. She had a recorded conversation and e-mails of him asking, everytime she refused. Guess who got fired when she tried to turn him in? MY MOM!!! I think it is sooo not fair. Sorry about my rant. ~*FOXY*~ [This message was edited by YNmoderator on August 04, 2003 at 12:19 PM.]

Yes, women should have the same rights as men, get paid the same as a man in the same position, and not be judge as being a female. Women can do anything a man can do...probably even better than a man in the same position.

I'm really curious about who voted that women shouldn't receive equal treatment.

its cool. you didn't attack; i like discussions. your boyfriend does have a point.... in cromagnum man days women used to be feared and worshiped because they bleed during certain cycles of the moon and didn't die.
plus i think testosterone plays into the whole dominance thing to. and i won't disagree that women are hyper complicated and, i think, SHOULD be feared......... it scares me sometimes to even imagine what goes on inside your heads. you have like superduper powers or something. (intuition, and you girls READ MINDS i swear). plus most girls i know are smarter than me. i wouldn't mind a women in the presidential office; they've got good people skills.

I had a really long, interesting discussion with my (absolutely wonderful and uber-sexy) boyfriend this evening about sexism and roles of men and women in our society. He proposed that oppression of women stems from men's fear of them (because women are sexually and emotionally more complex), and consequent need to feel more powerful than them. Well, he explained it way better, and there was more to it, but I think y'all get the general concept.
I think I agree with him (I mean, I'm not a man, so I can't really say, but it sounds like it could be right), and I'm wondering what you guys out there think about it.
Love, Jenny
P.S. Sinope -- When I re-read my last post it sounded like I was really attacking you. Sorry, I didn't mean it that way.

fwegan. i'm not saying it's either one OR the other. i truly believe that both sexes ARE equal, and think that men and women should be concerned with parenting....... i bring this up because i see parents BOTH leave for work, and leave thier kids with either some sitter or in front of the t.v.\computer\videogames\etc. etc. while they BOTH go chasing some materialistic lifestyle. this is probably off subject about now, but i just want you to know that if both sexes are equal they really should both be treated equally. i hope my earlier post doesnt' sound sexest.
and "women in combat" stance is very personal to me. i am biased, but i would rather die than let my sister or girlfriend or godfordbid MOTHER!!!!! go into battle or put themselves in danger. this goes for both sexes to; but to think about WOMEN in that position is almost tearjerking. (i guess i couldn't make you understand). it just wouldn't be right.

Sinope: Why should it be the women's choice to either be liberated or be a good parent? Why can't the man be the primary parent? And why do you think women shouldn't be allowed to fight (not challenging, just curious)?
Profeminist2003: I really don't say things like this very often, but I feel bad about calling myself a feminist when I read what you write. I urge you to be more respectful of others, although I totally understand the pain that religion-based sexism causes women.
