women are beautiful creatures. they have every oppurtunity and resource available in this country as men. this is equality. a women CAN go to school and she CAN go to work and she CAN be successful. i'm not saying that sexism doesn't exist (especially in the underdeveloped parts of the world let alone here), but there is no injustices holding a women back to do whatever she wants to do.

i do understand were men come from though. we need good mothers in our society; not just working moms that put the food on the table. i know that you can do both, but if the quality of your parenting suffers because a mother feels liberated doesn't that in turn effect the kid's kids? women have always had a role in human social settings and deserve equal amount of respect as men, but as long as that role is being filled i don't think that it should matter the gender.

this should probably be another topic, but should women be allowed to fight in combate????? i don't think so. there's just SOME roles that shouldn't be reversed. i do think women should be pastors though....... that would make for interesting sermons, and fresh perspectives.

The bibble is a bunch of garbage, created by men in order to subjugate women. The best thing that could be done with a bible is to use it as disposable paper to wash windows, and maybe then we could see out of this ridiculous maze that the phallic fathers try to coop us all in.

there is a great writer who wrote a book called "beyond god the father" her name is Mary Daly.

**** striaght they should be treated equal. Now I won't have to give up my seat on a bus for a woman. Now if a woman insults me or my friends, I can kick her ***. Yup...equality would be great....

Hey people
I was going through all the replys and stuff and i noticed some people think that women and men shouldnt be equal. Well lets think about it for a second. If women and men shouldnt be treated equal than teens and adults shouldnt either. And then people shouldnt be equal because of what religon and race they are. So whoever thinks that men and women shouldnt be treated equal is racist?

The bible certainly oesnt believe women are equal to men, quite the opposite:

Peter3:1
quote:
Likewise, ye wives,
be in subjection to your own husbands; that, if any obey not the
word, they also may without the word be won by the conversation of the wives

Corinthians 14:34
quote:
Let your women keep
silence in the churches: for it is not permitted unto them to speak; but
they are commanded to be under obedience as also saith the law.

Timothy
quote:
2:11
Let the woman learn
in silence with all subjection.
2:12
But I suffer not a
woman to teach, nor to usurp authority over the man, but to be in silence.

Theres more where that came if you want to hear more. The point is that the bible and god's teachings are sexist, as well as numerous other prejudices being expressed in it.

no offense, locutus, but it isn't absurd if someone believes in it.
The bible, seems to me at least, to have SOME sexist things in it, but God isn't sexist. That would be against HIM!! I guess it's just the way it's put. The bible says, that women furnish the house, take care of the kids, teach the kids the bible, TEACH the kids, cook and clean, and the father/husband goes to work all day. And it also says that the wife, if she has to, can go out and get a job. Now, of course, nowadays, God doesn't expect the women to stay at home because some CAN'T!!!

Basing matters of freedom and equality on a book written thousands of years ago is absurd.

I understand that the bible was written by a man, read to me by a man and god i believe is a man but what my point is that if God want it to be that way I will follow I may not think that it is fair but that doesn't matter because he is my God and I am behind him 110%
(Don't mean to be too reigious)

what kind of poll is that? whoever says no is still in the dark ages. kind of sad that there are still some sexists... anyway yes it is totally unfair that women cant be priests. imagine how things would be? a lot of stuff would change. I know that the bible was written by men and stuff, but i think that God is portrayed as a male, so until that stops and we start seeing God as a man and a woman. (hes everything and in everything as well as everywhere) priests will continue to be men... cuz you know.. they have to represent the Lord..!

i find it really suprising to hear that the bible says sexist stuf like that.
and any way, even if the bible does say that, we have to remember that it was ritten like AGES ago. its obviously the primordial attitude that society had towards women... so why should women of today live their life according to what it says in the bible...especially if you don't believe in the christian idea of god, etc?

And anyway...it doesn't really matter what it says in the bible, because if someone really wants to do something, they are going to do it anyway...whether or not the bible agrees with them. in other words if a woman wants to lead, and live her own life she will, no matter what it says in the bible.

is "created" first means he should lead? see even if men were created first how does that mean he should lead, they are interpreting what God did. IT is not Gods word but mens word.

pam88ela, I am very concerned by your post. I don't mean to turn this board into another one arguing religion, but I need to pose this question:
How can you believe that? I mean, first off, the
Bible was written by men, so there's instant bias. Secondly, it was read to you by a man, so get's a man's interpreting, which is much different from a woman's. I cannot believe you'd just let yourself be unequal and treated so unfairly because someone said that that's what God intended.
