With the election of Barack Obama, do you think that we can put racism to rest and just move on? The Post-Racial President

Especially since 10 plots to take his life have been discovered since he took office. Fortunately, most people who are racist, also tend to be stupid.

Just because America has a new black president doesn't necessarily means ALL racisms is well and truly over.

It would be great to say that because we have a black president that the racism in america is over, but that would be a complete lie. Racism is passed through family members, through history and through teachings of others at a young age until those teachings are completely diminished there will forever be racism.

I'm not exactly sure a half black president is the end of racism. Although I would think it would prove the "problem" is slightly exaggerated, especially by these "civil rights" leaders.

Moreover, simply criticizing the president isn't and admission or indication of racism. Surely few people were accused of racism when they openly criticized Bush. No matter how extreme or dramatic they might have been about it -Romashu-.

Racism is a wasted emotion. I feel that racist people only get their power from whatever attention they are given. If they are ignored, they will get bored and find something else to do and the rest of the post-modern world can "get on with it".

why would there be more racism because of a black president that the majority of people voted for?

generally people are racist because their parents were, not because of who was voted in.

No racism is not officially over. Just because we have an African- American President, doesn't mean racism is over. It's a huge step in History and made a difference in many people lives but hasn't changed racism. Racism won't change until people notice that they are hating one another over the color of their skin, their race. We are all human, why can't people just act that way.

There is no such thing (in science) as race. The reason for our various skin colors is adaptation for life under the sun. ^.^

Racism will never be over. Mostly b/c of those who think their skin color makes them smarter, more hardworking, and more competent than people with a different amount of melanin.
But a smaller reason is the reverse-racism-political correctness shit we are all supposed to put up with. Like people assuming that you can't say the word black when you describe a person- it's an adjective not an insult.

Racism will never be officially over because of the close-minded ignorant people who believe that one race is superior to another... even though majority has moved on from that "race hate", there are still others who believe in Charles Darwin's theory of survival of the fittest (first used as a theory for animals)....

racism is not over, it will never be over. as long as there are narrow minded idiots who think they are superior than others because of the colour of thier skin racism will always be around. im a brown skined woman & i have just moved to australia and last night for the first time in my life i got called a porch monkey. Mad Frown
so although we might want to think that racism is a thing of the past, it clearly is still present today

The only way to really get over something is to just ignore it. Let's ignore the differences in the color of our skin and move on already...trust me, that is a societal change, not something that is brought on by "Oh look! The US elected it's first black President!!!"

You can't just "forget" your race it's part of who you are. You should be proud of it, you should know about it. Obama being the first black(technically half black)president is a big deal because it shows that equality in America can be achieved. I know it can get annoying hearing people focus so much on his race, but it is worth mentioning. Anyway, I know I'll always like JFK for being the first Irish president.

Marjane Strapi wrote in her book that you should forgive but never forget. That's how it should be with race.

"Of coarse this is happening inside of your head Harry, but why on earth should that mean it isn't real?"- Albus Dumbledore
