I'm assuming you just mean racism against black so I'll keep it to that.

I believe we, both blacks and everyone else has come a long way. There are more laws favoring blacks. There is acceptance of black among people. You know, all that “WE ARE ONE IN THE SAME” stuff.

BUT....

I still think there is a lot of unspoken tension. It's like as if everyone is holding a grudge and someone, someday is going to snap.

Now, I don't know if that tension will ever go away. Maybe when all the baby boopers die out from those really back in the day years when racism was on high. Maybe when Barack Obama is the president for at least a year or two. I don't know. This tension is pretty hard to break.

i would say that racism is not over till we learn who to look past it. the fact that there is a African American president shows that certain ppl are look past the color of his skin. yet there is still ppl who are racist. i read an article on parents who got there young boy takin into custody for rasing him to be a racist.
racism still exist but we have to learn to look past the color of our skin or were we came from but for who we are

I agree because I think that if we look at him just as a black president, we are only concentrating on the color of his skin, thus reinforcing distinguishing between races. This might bring about more double standards if people think like that.

Even with all the changes our nation has experienced recently, racism still thrives. Obama's election has inspired hope, something desperately needed, but it has also inspired rage from others. The book on racism is far from closed but Obama has brought us one giant step closer.

As weird as it is there are people in this country who specifically raise their children to be racist.

No.

The very fact that we still distinguish between race means that we are not over racism.

When I filled out my law school applications, I had to check a box to let them know what race I was. If you turn on the TV, you will find BET, Black Movie Awards (or something like that)...

The only way to really get over something is to just ignore it. Let's ignore the differences in the color of our skin and move on already...trust me, that is a societal change, not something that is brought on by "Oh look! The US elected it's first black President!!!"
